The CD 70 is a Marantz disc player in full-width form, announced on 15 July 2026 alongside the MODEL 70 integrated amplifier as the successor to the CD6007 in the entry hi-fi range. Launch prices were USD 750, EUR 600 and GBP 499, with sales starting on 15 August. It shares its DAC architecture and HDAM circuitry with the MODEL 70 and comes in Black or Silver-Gold, with FSC-certified packaging chosen to cut plastic use.
Key specs that matter
With a CD, Marantz quotes a frequency response of 2 Hz to 20 kHz, 100 dB of dynamic range, 110 dB S/N, total harmonic distortion of 0.0016% and channel separation of 98 dB. The drive reads CD, CD-R/RW, MP3 and WMA discs, but not SA-CD or AAC discs. A front USB-A port plays FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC and DSD files. On the back sit gold-plated RCA analogue sockets plus a single optical and a single coaxial digital out, and the front adds a headphone jack with its own volume control. The chassis measures 442 mm wide, 351 mm deep and 109 mm high, with a weight of 6.5 kg. Power draw is 32 W, falling to 0.3 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
The upgraded DAC runs with a master clock design, and the output stage uses HDAM and HDAM-SA2 modules. The headphone amplifier is a buffered, fully discrete HDAM-SA2 circuit with adjustable gain. A toroidal power transformer feeds one rectifier circuit for analogue stages and another for digital ones, laid out symmetrically. An extra metal plate stiffens the double-layered chassis base, and the front panel is metal. For CD playback a selectable digital filter is fitted. The VFD panel has a dimmer and an off setting, and the digital outputs can be disabled when not in use. Program play holds up to 25 tracks, alongside repeat and random modes, and ID3, WMA and AAC metadata can be shown. The unit powers itself down automatically, and the mains cable is detachable. The box contains the RC006PMCD remote with batteries, an audio cable, a remote connector cable and the AC cord.
Pairing
The MODEL 70 was launched as its matching partner, in the same full-width format and finishes, and a D-Bus terminal on the rear links the two for control. Any amplifier with a spare unbalanced line input accepts the player, while a separate converter or receiver can be driven from either digital socket.
Alternatives
For SACD playback Marantz offers the SACD 10, built around its own SACDM-3 disc transport with balanced XLR outputs and a USB-B DAC input.
