The Synergy Black Label Sub-100 is a compact powered subwoofer from Klipsch's Synergy Black Label range, the brand's entry-level home cinema line introduced around 2018 alongside matching bookshelf, floorstanding and centre speakers. It is designed to add low-frequency extension to a stereo pair or complete a 5.1 or larger surround system without taking up the floor space of a larger subwoofer.

Key specs that matter

The Sub-100 uses a single front-firing 10-inch woofer with a spun-copper Injection Molded Graphite (IMG) cone, driven by a built-in all-digital amplifier rated at 150W continuous and 300W dynamic power. Controls include a variable low-pass crossover, phase control and level adjustment, and connection is through line-level and LFE inputs. The cabinet is MDF with a brushed polymer veneer finish, black with copper accents, and measures about 31.8 x 35.6 x 39.9cm and weighs about 11.6kg.

Engineering and use context

Injection Molded Graphite is a composite in which graphite is bound into the cone material during moulding, giving a cone that is very light yet stiff. Low mass lets the driver follow fast changes in the signal, while high stiffness keeps the cone moving as a rigid piston so it does not flex and break up under the large excursions a subwoofer makes. The all-digital amplifier is a Class D type, chosen for high efficiency - it converts most of its input power into output rather than heat, which is what allows 150W continuous power in a small cabinet with only modest cooling. The front-firing driver radiates directly into the room, so the subwoofer can be placed close to a wall or inside an open cabinet shelf without the woofer being blocked. A removable, acoustically transparent grille protects the cone, and an LED on the front panel shows power and standby status.

Pairing

The LFE input connects to the dedicated subwoofer output of any AV receiver, where the receiver's bass management handles the crossover. The line-level inputs suit stereo amplifiers or older receivers without a subwoofer output, and in that case the Sub-100's own low-pass crossover sets where it takes over from the main speakers. The phase control aligns the subwoofer's output with the main speakers at the listening position, which matters when the sub stands at a different distance from the listener than the speakers. Its 10-inch format suits small and medium living rooms.

Alternatives

Klipsch's own Synergy Black Label Sub-120 uses a larger 12-inch driver and a 200W continuous, 400W dynamic amplifier for bigger rooms.
