The Santorin 30-200 is a powered subwoofer from Cabasse, the French company founded in 1950, and a member of the Santorin family that also includes the Santorin 30-500 and the Santorin 25. Cabasse states that its acoustic solutions are inherited directly from those developed for La Sphere, the reference speaker of the brand, and it lists the model at EUR 1,500. The subwoofer targets both stereo 2.1 systems and multichannel home cinema.

Key specs that matter

One 30 cm driver of type 30ND40 with a honeycomb dome is powered by an amplifier rated at 200 W nominal and 400 W peak. Measured in an anechoic chamber, the response runs from 29 Hz to 180 Hz, and maximum output is 104 dB SPL. Its low-pass point is adjustable between 40 Hz and 180 Hz, a phase switch chooses between 0 and 180 degrees, and a separate level control sets output. The cabinet measures 43.5 x 37 x 46 cm and weighs 25 kg, and it comes in gloss white or gloss black lacquer. Mains input is 110 to 120 V or 220 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz, with a maximum consumption of 200 W, and the operating range is 5 to 35 degrees C.

Engineering and use context

Because of its honeycomb structure, the membrane is both rigid and light, so the cone can travel a long way without deforming. A strong magnetic field and a long-throw voice coil on a Kapton former allow high levels over the whole working band. In place of a conventional horizontal port, the cabinet vents through a vertical opening near floor level that radiates around 360 degrees, which Cabasse says filters out noise from the air flow. The manual also describes an automatic standby function, and the subwoofer draws its power through an AC IN cord connected to the mains. Cabasse specifies storage between minus 5 and 40 degrees C and a usable humidity range of 40 to 70 percent.

Pairing

The owner's manual lists default crossover settings for several Cabasse speakers - 125 Hz with the iO2 satellites, 80 Hz with the Riga and 65 Hz with the Baltic Evolution - and gives placement guidance for both 2.1 stereo and 5.1 home cinema layouts. These defaults show how the low-pass range is meant to cover both compact satellites that need a high handover and larger speakers that reach lower on their own.

Alternatives

The Cabasse Santorin 30-500 is the alternative within the same Santorin subwoofer family.
