The Q SUB100 is a sealed powered subwoofer from Q Acoustics and occupies the centre of the three-model Q SUB series, placed between the Q SUB80 and the Q SUB120. The series was introduced on 11 March 2025. Launch prices for this model were GBP 699, EUR 875 and USD 1,049. Its cabinet is finished in either Satin Black, fitted with a black grille, or Satin White, which comes with a grey grille.
Key specs that matter
Its 254 mm bass driver has a paper cone and rubber surround held in a heavy-duty steel chassis, and it uses a 38 mm voice coil. Amplifier output is 250 W continuous and 500 W peak, with THD of 0.09% at rated power. Response is given as 32 Hz to 250 Hz at -6 dB, and maximum output reaches 111 dB at 1 m. A low pass control, which sets the -6 dB point of the filter, can be moved anywhere from 40 Hz to 250 Hz. Height and width are both 350 mm, depth is 382 mm, and the unit tips the scales at 16.7 kg.
Engineering and use context
An aluminium demodulation ring sits in the motor to reduce modulation distortion caused by the inductance of the voice coil. The amplifier module was designed in-house by Q Acoustics and combines four digital power stages wired as a parallel bridge-tied load, a layout shared by all three Q SUB models. No reflex port is used, as the box is fully closed. Its walls are 18 mm high-density MDF, the front baffle is doubled to 36 mm, and dart bracing inside the box stiffens the panels. Digital signal processing identifies whether the incoming signal is stereo or mono and sets the gain to match. A phase inversion switch and a fine delay adjustment help align the arrival time of the subwoofer with the main speakers. A 12 V trigger input allows the subwoofer to switch on together with other components. Four spikes with locking nuts and spike covers are supplied in the box. Against the SUB80, this model adds 51 mm of cone diameter, 50 W of continuous power and 4 dB of maximum output, while its cabinet grows by 35 mm in height and width and by 1.7 kg in weight.
Pairing
A single RCA input with 20 kOhm impedance accepts up to 2.1 V rms. It takes a stereo feed from the preamplifier outputs of an amplifier, or a mono signal from the LFE output of a home theatre receiver or from the sub output of active speakers. The automatic source detection means the same socket works for both cases without a manual gain change.
Alternatives
The Q Acoustics Q SUB120 is the model above it in the series, with a 305 mm driver on a 50 mm voice coil, 300 W continuous power and response down to 28 Hz.
