The Debut 2.0 S10.2 is the 10 inch powered subwoofer of the ELAC Debut 2.0 series, the entry-level range designed by Andrew Jones. ELAC Americas introduced it in 2018 as the matching bass unit for the new Debut 2.0 loudspeakers, and gave it the part number DS102-BK. It sold at USD 399 and comes only in a Black Ash vinyl wrap.
Key specs that matter
A single high-excursion woofer with a doped paper cone sits in a reflex enclosure with a dual flared port. Onboard power is 100 W RMS and 200 W peak, with distortion below 0.1 percent. ELAC quotes a frequency response of 35 Hz to 150 Hz, and the low-pass crossover can be set anywhere between 50 Hz and 150 Hz. The cabinet is a cube of 343 mm on each side and weighs 13 kg. Standby consumption is 0.5 W. The only signal input is one RCA socket labelled LFE, and the box contains an AC power cable.
Engineering and use context
ELAC fits BASH tracking amplifiers to all of its subwoofers. A BASH circuit follows the incoming signal and raises or lowers the supply voltage fed to a conventional Class AB output stage, so the amplifier runs with little wasted heat at normal levels yet can call up extra voltage on sudden bass peaks. The cabinet is made from MDF with a horizontal brace across the inside, which stiffens the panels and limits vibration of the walls. ELAC describes the driver as a custom long-throw unit, built for the large cone travel needed to reach deep bass from a box of this size, and the compact footprint was chosen so the sub can go almost anywhere in a room. Signal sensing wakes the S10.2 automatically and returns it to standby after a long period of inactivity to save energy. Rear-panel controls cover level, crossover frequency and phase.
Pairing
The LFE socket is meant for a home cinema receiver or any amplifier with its own sub output, where bass management already happens in the host device and the crossover knob can be turned to its top position. With a stereo preamplifier that sends a full-range signal to its sub output, the crossover dial sets where the S10.2 hands over to the main speakers. ELAC built it to match the Debut 2.0 B6.2 and F6.2 models, and the phase control lets the owner match its output to theirs. There are no speaker-level terminals, so an amplifier without a line-level subwoofer or preamp output cannot drive it.
Alternatives
The ELAC Varro PS250 is a larger sub from the brand with 250 W RMS, a 30 mm braced MDF cabinet and app control over Bluetooth.
