Engineering and use context

The two ways divide at 750 Hz, and the low loss passive network, wired for bi-wiring, uses 2nd order slopes on both filter sections. Its parts are Cryo-Lite treated. Front panel adjustments cover high frequency energy from 1.8 kHz upward and the 2.5 kHz to 5.0 kHz region, each by plus or minus 3 dB. Heavy internal bracing reinforces a cabinet of high density fibreboard dressed in walnut. A downward firing port exits onto a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser at the bottom, meaning the port does not face forward or backward. The compression tweeter marks a change from the smaller Vintage Classic VIII, which uses a 25 mm magnesium dome.

Given its sensitivity and nominal load, the X is an easy match for amplifiers of modest output. Larger solid state amplifiers also fall inside the upper limit. Twin terminal pairs permit the two sections to be bi-wired or driven by separate amplifiers.
