Напольная акустика — Fyne Audio VINTAGE CLASSIC GOLD XII SP

The Vintage Classic Gold XII SP is a floorstanding loudspeaker from the Vintage Classic Gold SP Series by Fyne Audio, presented first during the Munich High End exhibition. The range follows the ambition of Dr Paul Mills to build a speaker in the cabinet style of the hi-fi era of his formative years, and his signature is engraved on the gold front control plate trim. The UK price is GBP 11,999.99 per pair including VAT, with EUR 14,499.99 and USD 15,999.99 listed for other markets.

Key specs that matter

A single 300 mm IsoFlare point source driver carries the whole band. The cone is made of multi-fibre material and is held by a FyneFlute surround, and at its centre sits a 75 mm compression tweeter, titanium alloy in its dome and neodymium in its magnet system. Sensitivity is 96 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m into an 8 ohm nominal load. The response is quoted as 25 Hz to 26 kHz at minus 6 dB, typical in room. Fyne Audio recommends 20 to 350 W RMS of amplification and rates continuous handling at 175 W RMS. The cabinet measures 948 x 550 x 421 mm tall, wide and deep, with a weight of 51 kg, and the only finish is walnut veneer with gold accents.

Engineering and use context

The XII SP works as a two-way system with a crossover at 750 Hz, with 2nd order filtering applied to each driver path. The bi-wired passive low loss network is given Deep Cryogenic Treatment at the company's own cryogenic facility. Two front controls adjust high frequency energy above 750 Hz by plus or minus 3 dB and the band between 2.5 kHz and 5 kHz by the same amount. Extensive bracing stiffens an enclosure made of high density birch ply. It uses a twin cavity design with a downward firing port feeding the BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, a 360 degree porting system. Connection is through gold-plated ETI terminals. The series comes in 8, 10, 12 and 15 inch IsoFlare versions named with Roman numerals, and every model above the 8 inch one uses the titanium compression tweeter.

Pairing

Thanks to its high sensitivity and benign load, the XII SP suits low powered amplifiers from the bottom of its recommended window, yet the continuous rating also lets it take larger solid state designs. Its bi-wired crossover allows two cable runs per speaker or bi-amping.

Alternatives

One model lower in this series sits the Vintage Classic Gold X SP from Fyne Audio, which has a 250 mm IsoFlare driver and is listed at GBP 9,999.99 per pair.
