The Theva N°2 is a three-way tower with a reflex port that Focal introduced as the newcomer to the Theva range. It uses small drivers in a slim, compact cabinet on a tilted stand, and it comes in Black High Gloss, Dark Wood and Light Wood finishes, the latter paired with a light stand and grille.
Key specs that matter
Two 13 cm Slatefiber bass drivers and a 13 cm Slatefiber midrange sit below a 25 mm aluminium and magnesium inverted dome TNF tweeter. The crossover points are 280 Hz and 2,900 Hz. The response is rated at 53 Hz to 28 kHz within 3 dB, with the -6 dB point at 44 Hz. Sensitivity is 90 dB, nominal impedance 8 ohm and minimum impedance 2.9 ohm, and Focal recommends amplifiers of 40 to 200 W. The cabinet is 93.1 cm tall, 19.1 cm wide and 35.2 cm deep, and one speaker weighs 17 kg with its grille. Focal names Time Alignment as the means of focusing output on the listener. The shipping carton measures 105 x 32 x 48 cm and weighs 21 kg packed.
Engineering and use context
Slatefiber cones combine recycled carbon fibres with a thermoplastic polymer, a mix Focal chose for rigidity together with damping, and the Theva N°2 uses it for its three cones. The tweeter carries a surround derived from the Utopia series, and its suspension uses shape memory Poron foam. Focal describes the four drivers as positionable through the tilted stand. A magnetic grille and an additional front panel form part of the design. Four spikes and four bumpers are included in the box.
Pairing
The sensitivity keeps the power needed modest, but the chosen amplifier has to be comfortable with low impedance. The narrow front suits rooms where wall space is limited.
Alternatives
The Vestia N°2 is another three-way Focal tower, using two 16.5 cm Slatefiber woofers and a TAM tweeter, crossover points at 280 Hz and 2,800 Hz and 91.5 dB sensitivity, with a 3 ohm lowest impedance and a weight of 22 kg.
