The Scala Utopia Evo M is a vented three-way column loudspeaker made by Focal, announced in 2026 with availability from August of that year as an update to the Scala Utopia Evo. It keeps the three-way architecture of the earlier model while adopting an M-profile midrange taken from Focal's Utopia Main professional monitors and the PRISM tweeter first used in the Diva Alta Utopia. Prices are USD 50,000 per pair in three high gloss colours including Black and Off White and USD 56,000 for Light Walnut with an Off White front or Dark Walnut with a Sepia Brown front.

Key specs that matter

It uses a 27 mm PRISM inverted dome tweeter with an M profile and IAL2 loading, a 13 cm reinforced W midrange with M profile, TMD suspension, neodymium motor and 80 mm voice coil, and a 27 cm W woofer driven by a dual 16 cm ferrite motor. Crossovers are at 230 Hz and 2.8 kHz. Focal specifies 27 Hz to 40 kHz within 3 dB and 24 Hz at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 92 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, with 6 ohm nominal and 3 ohm minimum impedance, and the suggested amplifier power is 50 to 500 W. The speaker is 124.7 cm tall, 39.3 cm wide and 67 cm deep, and weighs 85 kg.

Engineering and use context

The PRISM dome is made from a multi-material composite with a micro-structured surface, which Focal states is stiffer than beryllium while keeping low mass and good damping. IAL2 loading absorbs the rear wave behind the dome. The midrange cone is a one-piece W sandwich formed into the M geometry, and its larger voice coil sits in a neodymium magnet system. The woofer was redesigned completely around its twin ferrite magnets. The Gamma cabinet uses high-density MDF panels up to 60 mm thick, and the Focus Time geometry angles the driver modules so their outputs arrive in step at the seat. The OPC+ crossover lets the owner adjust bass and treble by 1 dB either way as well as the midrange level. Four insulated WBT terminals make bi-wire and bi-amp connection possible. The whole speaker is designed and made in France, with cabinets built in Burgundy and drive units produced in Saint-Etienne.

Pairing

The high sensitivity means moderate power is enough, but the impedance curve favours an amplifier able to supply generous current as the impedance falls. Owners with two stereo amplifiers or four mono channels can split the woofer and the upper drivers across separate amplification through the dual terminals.
