Key specs that matter

Four drivers handle the bass in each cabinet - these are 20.5 cm W cone woofers in a push-push arrangement - joined by a 16.5 cm mid-bass unit with a W cone, a reinforced 13 cm W midrange with an M-profile cone and TMD suspension, and a 27 mm PRISM tweeter, an inverted dome with an M profile and IAL2 loading. Four Class AB amplifiers designed by Naim deliver 600 W per speaker - 280 W for the woofers, 130 W for the mid-bass, 100 W for the midrange and 90 W for the tweeter. Response is 23 Hz to 40 kHz within 3 dB, reaching 20 Hz at -6 dB, and maximum output is 122 dB peak at 1 m. Each speaker is 148 cm tall, 46 cm wide and 62 cm deep and weighs 106.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

The Naim Pulse platform provides the streaming layer, supporting Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and QQ Music, plus internet radio and Bluetooth aptX Adaptive. The primary speaker has HDMI eARC with CEC, optical, analogue RCA, USB type A, Ethernet and an RJ45 speaker link, and the secondary speaker needs only the link. The two units talk over a proprietary Ultra Wideband wireless protocol at up to 5 m, or over the supplied 8 m cable at 192 kHz and 24 bit. Supported files include WAV, FLAC and AIFF at sample rates to 384 kHz, as well as ALAC, MP3, AAC, OGG and DSD64 or DSD128. Network access is Gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi 6, and the Focal and Naim app for iOS and Android handles streaming and multiroom. Power draw is 360 W in use and under 0.5 W in standby. The packaged weight reaches 129 kg per speaker. Five finishes are listed - Grey Felt, Ivory Felt, Black High Gloss, Off White High Gloss and Dune High Gloss.

Pairing

Because amplification and streaming are built in, a network connection or a television via HDMI eARC is enough to form a complete system. Focal rates the pair for rooms of up to 120 m2, and the delivery also contains a remote control, spikes with magnetic counter-spikes and a Naim Power-Line mains cable.

Alternatives

Focal also offers the Diva Utopia, an active wireless floorstanding model with a smaller cabinet in the same Diva family.
