The R-600F is a two-way passive tower from the Klipsch Reference range. It pairs a horn-loaded tweeter with two woofers that borrow technology from the Reference Premiere range, and it has hidden rear connections for adding Dolby Atmos height modules later. Klipsch lists a single finish, a black vinyl with textured wood grain.
Key specs that matter
A 1 inch aluminum Linear Travel Suspension tweeter with a Kapton suspension sits in a 90 x 90 degree square Tractrix horn whose outer dimensions have been enlarged. Below it are two 6.5 inch spun-copper thermoformed crystalline polymer woofers. The crossover frequency is 1,440 Hz. Klipsch rates the response at 38 Hz to 21 kHz within 3 dB and the sensitivity at 96 dB, measured as SPL at 1 m in half space with 2.83 V input. Power handling is 100 W continuous and 400 W peak, and the nominal impedance is 8 ohm compatible. The cabinet measures 1017 mm high, 240 mm wide and 386 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 18.6 kg.
Engineering and use context
Klipsch states that the larger horn mouth widens the bandwidth over which the tweeter directivity is controlled. The LTS suspension is intended to lower distortion, and aluminum is used for its light weight and rigidity. The thermoformed woofer cones have steeper angles and additional ribbing for higher rigidity and less cone breakup at the top of their range. Bass loading is reflex, venting through a rear Tractrix port matched to the cabinet and woofers to keep airflow turbulence low. Reinforced 19 mm MDF walls use a new bracing layout to cut cabinet vibration, and the vinyl wrap is scratch resistant. Hidden fasteners, an edge-to-edge horn and low-profile magnetic grilles give a clean front. Injection molded feet and screws are supplied, and Klipsch notes that the hidden Atmos connections hold wires in place to reduce visible cabling.
Pairing
One pair of gold plated terminals accepts one amplifier channel per speaker, so neither bi-wire nor bi-amp connection is possible. With its high sensitivity and generous power handling, the speaker suits typical AV receivers and stereo amplifiers, and the rear Atmos connections allow a top-mounted height module to be wired to a receiver with height channels.
Alternatives
The Klipsch R-605FA is a Reference floorstander built on the same pair of woofers with a 5.25 inch up-firing Dolby Atmos module integrated in its top.
