The Jubilee is a horn-loaded two-way design in the Klipsch Heritage series. It was the final project of company founder Paul W. Klipsch, first intended as a successor to the Klipschorn, and later engineering advances let the company bring his design to production. Each speaker combines a separate high frequency horn section with a large low frequency cabinet, and the enclosures are made in Hope, Arkansas.
Key specs that matter
Frequency response is 18 Hz to 20 kHz, plus 1.75 dB and minus 3 dB. Average sensitivity is 110 dB for the high frequency section and 107 dB for the low frequency section, measured in an average listening room. Nominal impedance is 16 ohm for the horn, with a minimum of 7.6 ohm at 4.3 kHz, and 8 ohm for the bass cabinet, with a minimum of 3.5 ohm at 160 Hz. Power handling is 100 W continuous and 400 W peak for the horn and 300 W continuous and 1200 W peak for the bass section. Maximum output reaches 125 dB at 1 m using the DSP. The crossover point is 340 Hz. The assembly stands 175.26 cm high, 127 cm wide and 76.2 cm deep, with the bass cabinet weighing 149.68 kg and the horn section 35.38 kg.
Engineering and use context
The low frequency cabinet uses a patented horn-loaded vented design with dual K-283 12 inch fiber-composite cone woofers, which Klipsch rates at 10 to 20 times the efficiency of a conventional loudspeaker. Above it sits the K-693, a big compression driver built around a 7 inch axiperiodic titanium diaphragm and a 5 inch voice coil. Its wide bandwidth removes the need for a separate midrange driver and lets the crossover sit below the critical vocal range. An external active DSP crossover, designed for shelf or rack mounting, adjusts phase and time delay for each section, applies EQ and gain to blend them and offers adjustable low and high frequency trim levels. Cabinets are MDF with book-matched veneer, and each grain-matched pair carries sequential serial numbers. Finishes are Satin Black Ash and American Walnut with salt and pepper grille cloth. Speakers are built to order, and the Heritage warranty covers 10 years.
Pairing
Because the crossover is active, every Jubilee requires a pair of amplifier channels, feeding the horn and the bass cabinet separately, connected through 5-way binding posts. The bass channels should cope with the low impedance minimum and use the higher power rating of that section.
Alternatives
The Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 offers a three-way all-horn Heritage design with a 15 inch woofer in a folded horn and a passive network.
