The F206 is a three-way floorstander in Revel's Performa3 series, the Harman brand's range that sits below the Ultima and Salon lines. Revel's development follows the research tradition begun by Floyd Toole at Canada's National Research Council, correlating measurements on and off axis with blind listening tests, and the F206 is the smaller of the two Performa3 towers, beneath the F208.

Key specs that matter

It uses a 25 mm aluminium tweeter in an acoustic lens waveguide, a 133 mm (5.25 in) aluminium cone midrange and two 165 mm (6.5 in) aluminium cone woofers on cast frames. Crossover points are 275 Hz and 2150 Hz. Low-frequency extension is 52 Hz at -3 dB, 40 Hz at -6 dB and 33 Hz at -10 dB. Sensitivity is 88 dB into a nominal 8 ohm load, and Revel's amplifier guideline is 50 W to 200 W. The cabinet measures 1052 x 249 x 347 mm and weighs 26 kg.

Engineering and use context

The tweeter was designed for the Performa3 series around a new motor and dome assembly. Its acoustic lens waveguide, in its sixth generation, aligns tweeter directivity with the midrange around the 2150 Hz transition, and also widens dispersion at higher frequencies. The aim is consistent output across a wide listening area rather than extra efficiency. The midrange and woofer cones are ribbed aluminium, anodised black, which keeps them rigid and pistonic across their operating range. Their motor systems include mechanisms that stabilise the magnetic flux during operation to reduce distortion. High-order crossovers reduce distortion and dynamic compression. The bass reflex port fires forward beneath the lower woofer and has identical flares at both ends, a fluid-model design that lowers port noise and compression. Because it fires forward, placement near a wall is easier than with a rear port. Enclosures are built by Italian cabinetmakers in piano black, piano white or high gloss walnut. A single pair of binding posts is fitted, so bi-wiring is not an option on this model. Spikes with locking rings level the plinth.

Pairing

With its moderate sensitivity and 8 ohm rating, the F206 is an easy load for integrated amplifiers and AV receivers of 60 to 150 W per channel, suited to rooms of about 20 to 35 m2. Its consistent off-axis output suits wide seating areas in home cinema, where the C208 centre completes the front stage.
