The F226Be is a three-way PerformaBe tower from Revel, built with twin 6.5 inch woofers, a separate midrange unit and a beryllium dome tweeter. Its slim tower is 1050 mm tall, 249 mm wide and 347 mm deep including its grille, with a reflex port that Revel places at the front.

Key specs that matter

The two 165 mm woofers and the 130 mm midrange all use Deep Ceramic Composite aluminium cones in cast frames, and the 25 mm beryllium tweeter is loaded by a 5th-generation Acoustic Lens waveguide. Engineering and use context

Revel states that the beryllium dome weighs about half as much as domes of aluminium, titanium or diamond while being up to 4.5 times stiffer than aluminium or titanium. Revel adds that the metal's thermal conductivity helps keep the voice coil cool. The waveguide profile follows a mathematical model that matches tweeter dispersion to the midrange around the upper crossover and increases dispersion above it. DCC cones are made by exposing aluminium to a plasma discharge that fuses ceramic to both faces, stiffening and damping them against resonance. Cabinet panels are 25 mm thick with extensive internal bracing, and Revel describes the enclosure as fully curved, which makes it stiffer than a rectangular box. The port uses a fluid-model profile with equal flares at each end to reduce port noise, and foam port plugs are included. The midrange and tweeter filters combine steep high-order slopes with film capacitors and air-cored coils, and the box includes adjustable floor spikes. The grille is held by magnets.

Pairing

Twin sets of gilded terminals, one feeding the high section and one the low section, are joined by shorting straps from the factory. Owners can drive it through a single cable, bi-wire it, or bi-amp it in vertical or horizontal fashion, though Revel says optimal performance is reachable with the standard single-cable method.
