Monitor Audio, a loudspeaker manufacturer based in the United Kingdom, built the Bronze 200 as a floorstanding model for Bronze 6G, the sixth version of its entry-level Bronze family. It is a passive 2.5-way bass-reflex tower built around two 5.5-inch mid-bass units and a 1-inch tweeter. A European reference price of EUR 1,040 per pair was listed for it in 2023, and four cabinet finishes were offered, black among them.
Key specs that matter
Monitor Audio quotes a sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, while the load is rated at 8 ohm nominal and dips no lower than 4.4 ohm. Low-frequency extension reaches 45 Hz in free field and 35 Hz in a room, both at the -6 dB point. Crossover points sit at 700 Hz and 2,400 Hz. Power handling is 120 W RMS, the suggested amplifier range runs from 40 to 120 W, and a pair can produce a maximum level of 112 dBA. The enclosure measures 886 mm in height, 166 mm in width and 265 mm deep, and one cabinet tips the scales at 12.8 kg.
Engineering and use context
The high-frequency unit is a C-CAM Gold dome mounted in a Uniform Dispersion (UD) waveguide, which the maker designed to widen dispersion at high frequencies and improve time alignment with the other drivers. Both mid-bass units use C-CAM cones with a new concave geometry and Damped Concentric Mode (DCM) technology. Bass loading comes from a pair of HiVe II reflex ports, whose inner surfaces are streamlined and rifled so that air moves through them with less turbulence. The crossover network is assembled from electrolytic capacitors, polyester film capacitors and low-loss inductors wound on air cores, and internal connections use Pureflow silver-plated oxygen-free copper cable. The cabinet is MDF with a 21 mm front baffle, 15 mm walls and internal bracing to cut vibration. Supplied feet accept either removable decoupling spikes or damping pads, and the fabric grilles fix magnetically.
Pairing
A slim footprint of under 17 cm across keeps the tower easy to fit beside a television or in a modest living space of about 20 m2. The minimum impedance stays within reach of ordinary stereo integrated amplifiers and AV receivers. Gold-plated terminals are doubled, which allows separate cable runs for treble and bass, or a second stereo power amplifier driving one of the two sections on its own.
Alternatives
The Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G is a larger Bronze floorstander with 6-inch drivers, a port tuned to 38 Hz and a 34 Hz in-room low-frequency limit.
