The Anthra W15 is the largest subwoofer in the Monitor Audio Anthra series, the British company's line of sealed powered subwoofers that also includes the W10 and W12. Monitor Audio aims it at large home cinema systems, and the series was introduced in 2023. Launch prices for the W15 were GBP 2,500, EUR 3,200 and USD 3,500, and the current UK list price is GBP 2,900.
Key specs that matter
A 15-inch (381 mm) driver with a Rigid Surface Technology II C-CAM cone is paired with a class D amplifier rated at 2,500 W instantaneous and 1,400 W continuous short-term output. The low limit is 16 Hz at -6 dB, and with the low-pass filter switched off the upper limit reaches 400 Hz at -6 dB. The cube-shaped cabinet measures 439 x 439 x 439 mm without feet, weighs 35.41 kg and draws 550 W of power. Finishes are High Gloss Black and Satin White, and the warranty runs for 5 years.
Engineering and use context
The cone uses ceramic-coated aluminium-magnesium, the C-CAM material found across the whole Anthra range and chosen for its higher resistance to bending stress, while the RST II surface pattern adds stiffness to the cone, and the driver has a triple suspension that permits 50 mm of peak-to-peak excursion. The sealed box is built from 25 mm MDF with a 36 mm front baffle, internal walls of 19 mm and bracing that Monitor Audio optimised acoustically, and a cloth grille attaches with magnets. Processing runs on a 28-bit, 50 MIPS DSP. Its low-pass point moves across 20 to 200 Hz with slopes between -3 and -48 dB per octave, and phase can be set anywhere from 0 to 360 degrees. Three predefined and three custom EQ curves are stored, each with 8 bands of parametric adjustment. An autoranging input accepts up to 10 Vrms while keeping the noise floor low. A colour LCD screen with a rotary knob at the rear handles basic setup and preset selection, and the MaestroUnite app gives access to deeper DSP settings.
Pairing
Inputs include stereo RCA, which can also take a mono or LFE feed, and a balanced XLR connection for mono or LFE signals from an AV processor. Matching RCA and XLR outputs pass the signal on, so up to four Anthra subwoofers can be daisy-chained in one system, and the app can send identical settings to every unit at the same time, which avoids configuring each one by hand.
Alternatives
The Monitor Audio Anthra W12 is the mid-sized model in the same series, using a 12-inch C-CAM driver driven by 900 W RMS, or 1,700 W peak, in a smaller sealed cabinet.
