The Titus Ez is the smallest stand-mount in Triangle's Esprit Ez range, designed by the French company as a compact introduction to its core technologies. Compact in size, it is intended for small rooms, desks and shelves, and it shares its tweeter and cellulose midrange technology with the larger Esprit Ez models so that it can serve as a surround speaker alongside them.

Key specs that matter

The Titus Ez pairs a horn-loaded 25 mm titanium dome tweeter and a 130 mm (5.25 in) mid/woofer with a 100% natural cellulose diaphragm, vented through a rear port. Response is 55 Hz to 22 kHz (+/-3 dB), sensitivity is 90 dB at 2.83 V/1 m, nominal impedance is 8 ohms and minimum impedance is 3.8 ohms. Recommended amplifier power is 15 W to 100 W, and power handling is 60 W RMS. The cabinet measures 168 mm wide, 305 mm high and 267 mm deep and weighs 5.9 kg.

Engineering and use context

In the Esprit Ez tweeter, horn loading in front of a titanium dome and its compression chamber raises efficiency and gives controlled directivity from a small baffle. The mid/woofer uses an uncoated white cellulose cone with a small-pleat peripheral suspension that increases the radiating surface for a given frame size. Its membrane profile, suspension shape and new dust cap were developed from the Magellan project. The driver frame was redesigned to dissipate voice-coil heat more quickly. Rear porting extends the bass response of the small enclosure, which means the speaker needs some space behind it to avoid excess low-frequency reinforcement from the wall. Crossover parts are copper inductors and polypropylene film capacitors, wired internally with Triangle's oxygen-free copper cable. The brushed aluminium terminal plate is shared with the rest of the Esprit Ez series, and finishes include black ash, white, light oak and chestnut.

Pairing

Triangle recommends the Titus Ez for rooms of 8 to 20 m2. The high sensitivity allows low-powered amplifiers to drive it to useful levels, including small valve designs, but the dip in impedance means it should be stable into 4 ohms. Adding a subwoofer covers the range below the speaker's bass limit in home cinema use. Placed on a desk, the narrow cabinet fits beside a computer monitor, and the short listening distance makes the modest power requirement even easier to meet.

Alternatives

Triangle's Comète Ez steps up to a 165 mm mid/woofer and a front port in a larger stand-mount cabinet.
