The Fives is a powered stereo speaker system from Klipsch's Heritage Wireless range, introduced in 2019-2020 as an all-in-one alternative to an amplifier and passive speakers or a soundbar. Klipsch describes it as the first powered monitor pair with an HDMI-ARC input, so it can connect directly to a television, while its built-in phono stage, USB and Bluetooth inputs let the same pair serve as a compact hi-fi system.
Key specs that matter
Each speaker combines a 1-inch titanium LTS vented tweeter on a Tractrix horn with a 4.5-inch high-excursion fibre-composite cone woofer in a rear-ported MDF cabinet with real wood veneer. Total system power is 160W (320W peak), with 60W for the woofers and 20W for the tweeters per side. Frequency response is 50Hz to 25kHz and maximum output is 109dB at 1m for the stereo pair. Inputs are HDMI-ARC with CEC, Bluetooth 5 with aptX HD, a switchable phono/line RCA input with ground terminal, a 3.5mm analogue input, USB digital and optical digital. Each cabinet measures 304.8 x 165.1 x 234.95mm, with the primary speaker weighing 5.35kg and the secondary 4.85kg.
Engineering and use context
The system is bi-amplified, with separate amplifier channels for the woofer and tweeter in each speaker, all housed in the primary cabinet and linked to the secondary speaker by a supplied 4m cable. The Tractrix horn is Klipsch's proprietary horn profile, which increases tweeter efficiency and controls its dispersion, and the rear port uses a Tractrix-shaped flare to reduce air noise. Digital inputs decode up to 24-bit/192kHz, and the HDMI-ARC link with CEC lets the TV remote control volume and power, so no separate receiver is required. The phono input includes a moving-magnet phono stage that can be switched to line level, with a grounding terminal for turntables. The design follows the Heritage styling of Klipsch founder Paul W. Klipsch, with real wood veneer in Walnut or Matte Black, tactile top-panel dials and removable magnetic grilles. Firmware updates are delivered through the Klipsch Connect app.
Pairing
As one system the Fives replace both an amplifier and a soundbar, serving a television, a record player, a computer and phones together. A single RCA subwoofer output adds a powered subwoofer for film soundtracks and deeper bass. Matching stands are available for floor placement.
Alternatives
Klipsch's own Fives II is the updated successor with re-engineered acoustics introduced with the brand's 80th anniversary line-up.
