The Summit Ama is a two-way bass-reflex stand-mount loudspeaker from the JBL Summit Series, developed at the JBL Acoustic Center of Excellence in Northridge, California. It made its debut in Munich in 2025 together with the Pumori and Makalu floorstanders and is the smallest of those three models. The Summit Everest and Summit K2 were added in 2026 as the top models of the series. The Ama is sold with its matching stand at USD 19,995 per pair, or GBP 14,999 per pair in the UK.

Key specs that matter

High frequencies come from the D2815K compression driver, which uses dual 1.5 inch annular-ring Teonex diaphragms and dual motors, loaded by a Sonoglass HDI horn. The JW200SC 8 inch woofer has an HC4 cone, a 2.5 inch voice coil, a ferrite motor, dual inverted spiders and a cast aluminium frame. The crossover point is 1,600 Hz. Sensitivity is 84 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a minimum of 3.1 ohm at 239 Hz, and the recommended amplifier power is 25 to 200 W RMS. Frequency response is 34 Hz to 25 kHz at -6 dB and 25 Hz to 33 kHz at -10 dB, and maximum output is 107 dB. The speaker is 476.3 mm high, 308 mm wide and 336 mm deep, with a weight of 26.3 kg, and the stand weighs 20.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

The D2815K is a patented JBL design in which two annular diaphragms, each driven by its own motor, share the work of a single horn-loaded compression driver. The HC4 woofer cone is a three-layer hybrid, with carbon fibre and pulp skins around a closed-cell foam core, combining stiffness with low mass. The series MultiCap crossover uses many small capacitors in place of single large ones to lower their equivalent series resistance, and it applies acoustically symmetric third-order slopes. Internal wiring is silver-plated OCC long-crystal copper, and two pairs of rhodium-plated terminals let the woofer and horn sections be wired separately. The cabinet has curved walls of sustainably sourced engineered wood, offset internal bracing and a damped multi-layer lining, with an irregular octagonal shape and a single flared rear port. Carbon-fibre trim frames the baffle. The stand is an internally damped dual-leg steel and aluminium frame on adjustable JBL and IsoAcoustics isolation feet. Finishes are high-gloss black with platinum accents or high-gloss ebony veneer with gold accents.

Pairing

Modest efficiency plus an impedance dip below nominal mean the Ama prefers an amplifier that stays stable into difficult loads and offers generous current. The two terminal pairs make passive bi-amping with two stereo amplifiers possible.

Alternatives

The JBL Summit Pumori adds a mid-bass driver and a 10 inch woofer to the same D2815K compression driver in a floorstanding cabinet.
