The JBL L10cs Classic Series is a powered 10-inch subwoofer. Harman Luxury Audio presented it at CES 2023 as the bass companion for its retro-styled Classic Series and Studio Monitor ranges, with deliveries set for the second quarter of 2023 at a suggested US price of USD 700. JBL positions it for two-channel loudspeaker systems, integrated music systems and home theatre alike.
Key specs that matter
A single 10-inch (250 mm) woofer with a white polycellulose cone fires downward toward the floor. Its internal amplifier delivers 250 W RMS and 500 W dynamic. JBL specifies a frequency response of 32 Hz to 150 Hz, while the crossover point is variable from 50 Hz to 150 Hz at 24 dB per octave. The cabinet measures 390 mm high, 335.4 mm wide and 395.2 mm deep, and it weighs 14.1 kg. Maximum consumption reaches 335 W, drawing 2 A on 230 V or 4 A on 120 V, and standby use stays below 0.5 W.
Engineering and use context
Bass-reflex loading is used, with tuned ports firing out of the rear panel, while the driver faces the floor, so neither opening points at the listener. Controls comprise a variable low-pass crossover, an output level control and a selectable phase switch, plus an auto on/off setting that lets the amplifier wake with an incoming signal and drop to standby once the music has ended. The only signal connection JBL lists is a single RCA-type LFE socket, so the subwoofer expects a line-level feed and offers no speaker-level terminals. A mains voltage switch lets the same unit run on US 60 Hz mains or 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz mains in Europe. The enclosure is covered in real wood veneer, offered in Natural Walnut or Black Walnut to match the finishes of JBL's Classic Series speakers.
Pairing
Harman lists the L75ms music system, the SA550 integrated amplifier and the Studio Monitor bookshelf pair of passive 4309 and active 4305P as intended partners. The 4305P provides its own sub out, which runs straight into the LFE socket with one RCA cable, while the passive 4309, a 4 ohm design with a 6.5-inch woofer, relies on the driving amplifier having a preamp or subwoofer output. Because the low-pass filter reaches high, it can meet small two-way speakers whose bass fades early. For movie use, a surround receiver's LFE jack can drive it through the same RCA input.
Alternatives
The JBL Stage 200P is another 10-inch powered subwoofer with a front-firing polycellulose woofer and a smaller amplifier.
