The L100 Classic 80 is a limited edition 12-inch (300 mm) three-way bookshelf loudspeaker made to mark 80 years of JBL loudspeakers and engineered for stereo playback. Production is limited to 800 pairs worldwide, the model became available from February 2026, and the matched pair costs USD 7,499. The package includes a set of JS-150 floor stands, and the whole system ships inside a custom-made wooden crate.
Key specs that matter
Nominal impedance is 4 ohms and sensitivity is 90 dB. The recommended amplifier power range is 25 to 200 W RMS. JBL gives a frequency response of 40 Hz to 40 kHz at the -6 dB points. Crossover points are set at 450 Hz and 3.5 kHz. With the grille fitted each speaker measures 642.9 mm high, 389.9 mm wide and 365.1 mm deep. JBL lists a weight of 32.5 kg each including the stand, and the crated pair ships at 137 kg. The launch was announced in late January 2026.
Engineering and use context
The low-frequency driver is the JW300SW-8, a 12-inch cast-frame unit using a dual spider and a pure-pulp cone, loaded by a bass-reflex cabinet that vents through a front-firing tuned port. Midrange is covered by the JM125PC-8, a 5.25-inch (130 mm) cone driver in polymer-coated pure pulp, and the JT025Ti2-4 1-inch (25 mm) titanium dome tweeter is mated to an acoustic lens waveguide. Two attenuators on the front adjust mid and treble output separately. All three driver part numbers match those listed for the standard L100 Classic MkII. The edition differs visually from the standard model, using an exclusive natural oak veneer, a brown Quadrex foam grille with a gold and black JBL logo, and a black satin wood frame. Anniversary badges are fitted on the front and rear, together with a numbered plaque carrying the signature of principal system engineer Chris Hagen and the individual pair number within the run.
Pairing
Dual sets of gold-plated binding posts support single wiring, bi-wiring and bi-amping, which lets the bass driver and the mid and treble section each take a dedicated amplifier channel. A partnering amplifier should be comfortable driving low impedance loads.
Alternatives
The JBL L100 Classic MkII is the standard series model built on the same 12-inch three-way design, offered in walnut veneer with a black, orange or blue Quadrex grille and sold without stands.
