The QR30 is a compact 2.0 desktop speaker set from Edifier, designed around computer and gaming setups and fitted with animated lighting built into the cabinets. The left and right units differ in size, since the active speaker houses the amplifier and connection panel while the passive side only holds drivers. Edifier sells it in black and white at USD 169.99.
Key specs that matter
Every cabinet uses a 2.75-inch long-throw mid-bass driver and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter. A Texas Instruments Class-D amplifier supplies 15 W + 15 W, for 30 W RMS in total. Rated frequency response spans 63 Hz to 20 kHz, with an SNR figure of 85 dB(A) or better. The active speaker is 127.5 x 193 x 142 mm, the passive one 112 x 193 x 142 mm, and both weigh 3.09 kg combined.
Engineering and use context
Short excursion is the usual limit of drivers this small, so Edifier used long-throw mid-bass units to let the cones move further at low frequencies within a desk-sized box. A switching output stage runs cool and draws little current, useful when the electronics share a small box with the drivers. The lighting runs on Edifier's patented TempoAbyss system, with 12 preset effects and a dedicated knob for brightness. Built-in sound modes are provided for music, films and games. Two software tools manage the set - the EDIFIER ConneX app on a phone and the EDIFIER TempoHub program on a computer - covering sound modes, light effects and source selection. Bluetooth 5.4 with multipoint keeps two devices paired at the same moment, and the codec is SBC, with no LDAC or aptX listed. Each input has the same 600 mV sensitivity, so switching between sources needs little change in volume.
Pairing
A computer can feed the QR30 digitally through the USB-A connection, which Edifier lists as an audio input, or through the 3.5 mm AUX socket, which also accepts a portable player or a record deck whose phono preamp is integrated. Phones, tablets and consoles with Bluetooth audio can stream to it wirelessly, and the multipoint function allows a phone and a laptop to be switched without re-pairing. The box ships with the speakers, a USB cable and the user manual. Being a closed powered system, it does not work with an external amplifier or with other passive speakers.
Alternatives
The Edifier QR65 is the larger desktop model in the QR series, rated at 70 W RMS with LDAC Bluetooth 5.3 and a subwoofer output.
