The OBERON ON-WALL C is a shallow active wireless loudspeaker from the Danish company DALI, built to hang directly on a wall. It belongs to the four-model OBERON C group together with the OBERON 1 C, the OBERON 7 C and the OBERON VOKAL C, and it can fill left and right, centre or surround positions. DALI stopped making the model later on.

Key specs that matter

A 29 mm damped textile soft dome tweeter sits above a 5.25 inch bass and midrange driver, and the pair is split at 2,700 Hz by a full active 24 bit DSP crossover. Every driver has its own closed-loop Class D amplifier, 50 W per channel. The quoted range is 51 Hz to 26,000 Hz within 3 dB, and peak output reaches 107 dB at 1 m. Two reflex ports on the back run parallel to the wall and are tuned to 52 Hz. The cabinet is only 120 mm deep, with a height of 385 mm and a width of 245 mm, and each unit weighs 4.9 kg. Finishes are wood-effect laminates such as light oak and black ash, plus matt white.

Engineering and use context

Because the enclosure is flat and the ports vent sideways along the wall surface, the speaker can sit flush against plaster without blocking its bass loading. Keyhole slots in the rear panel let it hang on one screw vertically or on two screws spaced 321 mm apart when mounted horizontally, and the DALI logo on the grille rotates by 90 degrees to match. The woofer diaphragm combines fine paper pulp with a reinforced wood-fibre composite, and a patented SMC disc in the motor lowers mechanical distortion. Panels are CNC-machined from high-strength MDF. The ON-WALL C is designed to take its signal wirelessly from a DALI hub, either the SOUND HUB or the smaller COMPACT version, with audio sent at 96 kHz without compression over a proprietary protocol with latency under 15 ms. It runs on 100 to 240 V mains, draws at most 62 W and needs 1 W in standby. The box includes mains cable, grille, rubber feet, silicone bumpers and cable clips.

Pairing

For stereo music DALI advises 2.0 to 4.0 m between the two speakers, with the listener at a similar distance. Next to a television each unit should be no more than 0.5 m from the screen edge, and a centre speaker mounted vertically goes above or below the set. Surround units work best at or slightly above ear height when seated. Multichannel playback needs the full SOUND HUB with its HDMI module, since the COMPACT hub is limited to two channels.

The DALI OBERON 1 C uses the same electronics in a deeper stand or shelf cabinet that reaches down to 39 Hz.
