The Mission 750 is a compact two-way model made by the British brand Mission and forms part of its 700 range together with the floorstanding 770 and 700 models. Its layout follows the Mission tradition of Inverted Driver Geometry, with the tweeter placed below the bass and midrange driver rather than above it. The 750 is sold in walnut or black oak real wood veneer, both combined with a white baffle, costing GBP 899 a pair in Britain when new.

Key specs that matter

The 135 mm mid-bass unit with a mineral-loaded polypropylene cone works with a 28 mm soft dome tweeter made of microfibre, and the crossover point is 2.4 kHz. Mission specifies 48 Hz to 20 kHz at plus or minus 3 dB and a bass extension of 42 Hz at minus 6 dB. Sensitivity is 86 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, nominal impedance is 6 ohm with a minimum of 4.5 ohm, and peak SPL is 103 dB. The recommended amplifier power is 25 to 100 W. Height on the plinth is 355 mm, width 216 mm and depth including terminals 305 mm, and each speaker weighs 9.0 kg net.

Engineering and use context

The inverted arrangement equalises the path length from the two drivers to a seated listener's ears, which Mission uses to improve time alignment between them. The 12.2 litre bass reflex enclosure uses a multi-layer sandwich bonded with an acoustic damping adhesive and stiffened by a custom internal bracing structure. Custom-profiled reflex ports vent at the rear, and the inside is lined with foam and long-hair fibre that damps reflections inside the box. As the ports open at the back, bass output depends on how close the cabinet is placed to a rear boundary, so some free space and a solid stand at ear height work best. The plinth is part of the cabinet design and adds to the stated height. In a 20 m2 room the 750 can be used as the main pair of a stereo system. The gross weight of the boxed pair is 19.5 kg, and the drivers and cabinet were developed by the Mission engineering team for this range rather than carried over from older models.

Pairing

Mission describes the load as 8 ohm compatible, so standard integrated amplifiers and receivers can drive it, but the low minimum impedance favours an amp with good current delivery into dips of the load. Given the moderate sensitivity, a more powerful amplifier offers more headroom than an entry-level amplifier.

Alternatives

The Mission LX-2 MKII is a more compact Mission bookshelf with a 5 inch bass driver, 87 dB sensitivity, an 8 ohm rating and an 8.5 litre bass reflex cabinet.
