The Evoke 10 is the compact standmount in the Evoke family from Dynaudio of Denmark. The series made its debut at the 2018 Munich show and went on sale in December of that year with five passive models - the Evoke 10 and 20 standmounts, the Evoke 30 and 50 floorstanders and the Evoke 25C centre. In the UK the Evoke 10 was priced at GBP 1,250 per pair. Dynaudio states that the range draws on technology, driver design and finishes from its Contour and Confidence lines.

Key specs that matter

The two-way driver set is a 28 mm Cerotar soft dome tweeter above a 14 cm long-throw Esotec+ mid/bass unit with an MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) diaphragm. Sensitivity is 84 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and the speaker is specified at 6 ohm nominal with 160 W of IEC long-term handling. Frequency response is 47 Hz to 23 kHz within 3 dB. Dynaudio lists a second-order crossover at 1,400 Hz. The reflex enclosure vents through a rear port and measures 180 mm wide, 315 mm high and 266 mm deep, with a weight of 6.7 kg per speaker. Four finishes are offered - black or white high gloss lacquer and walnut or blonde wood veneer.

Engineering and use context

The Cerotar tweeter was a new design for Evoke, developed from the Esotar Forty anniversary unit and the Esotar3 used in Confidence. Behind its dome sits the Hexis, an inner dome that steers airflow to smooth the frequency response and remove unwanted resonances, and its motor uses strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnets to raise sensitivity. The woofer diaphragm is 0.4 mm thick, a figure chosen for a balance of low weight, stiffness and internal damping. A 38 mm aluminium voice coil allows more windings for firmer control of the cone, an aramid fibre spider keeps the assembly centred, and a Ferrite+ magnet drives it. The Esotec+ unit also gained a new surround for Evoke. Every driver in the range was measured and tuned in the company's Jupiter measurement facility.

Pairing

The low sensitivity means the Evoke 10 needs more amplifier power for a given level than most small two-ways, although the moderate impedance keeps the current demand moderate. A solid-state integrated amplifier with power to spare is the logical match, and the generous power handling allows for sizeable amplifiers. The rear port calls for the speaker to stand clear of the back wall on a stand rather than inside a cabinet.

The Dynaudio Evoke 20 moves up to an 18 cm woofer within Evoke and offers 86 dB sensitivity and a 40 Hz lower limit.
