The Confidence 20A is the active version of the Confidence 20 standmount from Dynaudio of Skanderborg, Denmark. It was first shown at Munich High End in 2024 and officially launched in March 2025, priced at USD 24,000 or EUR 11,000 per pair. Dynaudio describes it as the next step after its earlier active designs such as XEO, Focus XD and the Pro range, and it shares its driver complement with the Contour 20 Black Edition.

Key specs that matter

A 28 mm Esotar 3 soft dome tweeter sits above an 18 cm NeoTec mid/bass driver with an MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cone. Two Class D amplifiers per cabinet feed the drivers separately - 150 W goes to the tweeter and 400 W to the woofer. The DSP crossover divides the band at 2,500 Hz. Response is 33 Hz to 25 kHz within 3 dB at 85 dB SPL, and 30 Hz to 28 kHz at the dynamic minus 6 dB points. The speaker alone measures 205.5 x 500 x 396 mm and weighs 28.5 kg; with its stand the footprint grows to 368 x 1,119 x 457 mm. Finishes are Space High Gloss and Snow High Gloss.

Engineering and use context

Dynaudio kept the cabinet and driver array of the passive Confidence 20, including the down-firing port, and replaced the network of resistors, capacitors and inductors with a digital crossover. The amplifiers come from Danish specialist Pascal. All electronics, including the DAC and DSP, sit inside the supplied aluminium stand, which also works as a heatsink, forms part of the port and adds mass for stability. The port is an Exponentially Shaped Dual Flared (ESDF) design whose end-to-end flare is meant to suppress air noise. The tweeter uses a precision-coated dome with the Hexis inner dome and a neodymium magnet, while the woofer winds its aluminium voice coil on a glass-fibre former. Sample-rate conversion is built in, analogue sensitivity is adjustable, and mains input accepts 100 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz, with maximum draw of 425 to 453 W and standby below 0.5 W.

Pairing

With the amplifiers already inside the stands, the owner supplies only a source or preamp. Each speaker takes a balanced analogue XLR input or an AES3 digital XLR input, and an AES3 output lets one channel pass the digital stream on to the other. That suits a preamplifier with balanced outputs or a streamer or digital preamp with AES3 outputs, and cable runs should be planned for XLR at both ends.

Alternatives

The passive Dynaudio Confidence 20 uses the same drivers in a 233 x 520 x 414 mm cabinet rated at 87 dB and 6 ohm for use with a separate amplifier.
