Полочная акустика — DALI EPICON 2

The Epicon 2 is a bookshelf speaker from DALI's Epicon range, built for a two-channel system where cabinet size is constrained but the brand's higher-tier drivers are still wanted. DALI structures its catalogue across several distinct tiers - Oberon, Opticon, Rubicon and Epicon among them - and the Epicon name places this model firmly at the top of that hierarchy rather than among the brand's more accessible ranges.

Position in line

It sits in DALI's flagship Epicon series, below the larger Epikore 3 and above the more affordable Rubikore 2 in terms of driver technology and finish. The relationship between these three names suggests a tiered engineering approach rather than simple rebadging, with each step up in DALI's range typically bringing improved driver materials, a more sophisticated crossover, and higher-grade cabinet construction rather than only a larger enclosure.

Key specs that matter

Rated response is 47 Hz to 30 kHz, reaching a wide top-end extension typical of DALI's higher tiers, well beyond what a more accessible bookshelf model in the brand's range typically claims. Sensitivity is 87 dB into 4 ohms with a 30-200 W window, a moderate-power amplifier requirement rather than an easy load - buyers should note the 4 ohm figure specifically, since it calls for a somewhat more capable amplifier than the 6 or 8 ohm ratings common on DALI's more accessible models.

Sound and use context

Expect the open, detailed character DALI's Epicon range is built around, with the wide top-end extension carrying air and resolution into the treble - a listener moving up from DALI's Rubicon or Oberon ranges specifically for this Epicon model should expect an audible step up in resolving power, not simply a cosmetic upgrade.

Pairing

The 87 dB sensitivity and 4 ohm load call for a reasonably capable amplifier rather than a low-power design, in keeping with the Epicon range's positioning as DALI's serious, no-compromise bookshelf offering.

Alternatives

The Rubikore 2 sits below this model at a lower price with a similar cabinet size but a step down in driver technology. The Epikore 3 moves up into DALI's larger flagship territory, worth considering for a listener who has outgrown the Epicon 2's bookshelf scale entirely. Room placement and toe-in remain the main practical levers for fine-tuning the balance once the speaker is positioned, and a DALI dealer demonstration alongside the Rubikore 2 is worth arranging before committing to the price difference between the two models.
