The Aurora XT 300 is a ported two-way bookshelf speaker from the German maker HECO and belongs to the Aurora XT series that replaces the original Aurora range. The series comprises the XT 1000 and XT 700 three-way floorstanders, the XT 300, the XT Center 30 and the XT Sub 30A subwoofer, and it is designed to build 5.1 home cinema systems as well as stereo pairs. The XT 300 costs EUR 399, against EUR 599 for the XT 700, EUR 999 for the XT 1000, EUR 249 for the XT Center 30 and EUR 649 for the subwoofer, so a complete 5.1 set can be assembled within one design family.

Key specs that matter

A 28 mm fabric dome tweeter with ferrofluid cooling, which HECO calls the Fluktus Tweeter at series level, handles the high frequencies. The woofer is a 170 mm kraft-paper cone. The crossover point is 3,100 Hz. HECO specifies a sensitivity of 90 dB at 2.8 V and 1 m, a frequency response of 32 Hz to 42 kHz and an impedance of 4 to 8 ohm. Power handling is 80 W RMS and 150 W maximum, and the recommended amplifier power is 20 to 150 W. The speaker measures 195 x 357 x 315 mm, or 333 mm deep with feet and terminals, and weighs 7.3 kg. Bi-wire and bi-amp terminals are gold-plated.

Engineering and use context

Ferrofluid in the tweeter's magnetic gap draws heat away from the voice coil and damps the dome's movement, so the tweeter tolerates higher power and stays stable over long sessions. HECO describes the crossover as phase and amplitude optimised and built with high-grade parts, so the two drivers join smoothly where their ranges meet. The cabinet is internally braced to limit wall vibration and finished in a silk-matte lacquer with wood accents. The bass-reflex ports are airflow-optimised tubes screwed into the cabinet, shaped to reduce air noise at high levels. A magnetic grille attaches without visible fixing holes on the front. With separate terminals for the tweeter and woofer sections, the XT 300 can be bi-wired or driven by two amplifier channels per speaker.

Pairing

The high sensitivity means the XT 300 reaches normal levels with modest power in a room of about 20 m2, and HECO's recommended amplifier range covers most stereo amplifiers and AV receivers. In a 5.1 home cinema, the XT 300 works as a front or rear speaker, with the XT Center 30 and XT Sub 30A completing the system.
