The 4305P is a powered two-way stand-mount system in the JBL Studio Monitor family from Harman, built so that a pair needs no separate amplifier, streamer or DAC. It takes the compression driver and horn layout of the passive studio monitors into a compact active cabinet and adds network streaming plus wired digital and analogue inputs. Harman announced it for the first quarter of 2022 at a US price of USD 2,200 per pair.

Key specs that matter

JBL fits a 2410H-2 compression driver with a 1-inch diaphragm loaded by an HDI horn, and a 5.25-inch fibre-composite woofer in a cast frame covers the bass. The electronic crossover hands over at 1,750 Hz, and response is given as 45 Hz to 25 kHz. Each cabinet holds Class D amplification of 125 W for the woofer and 25 W for the compression driver, so the pair totals 300 W RMS. Conversion is handled by a 24-bit/192 kHz DAC. With grille, one speaker measures 336 mm high, 210 mm wide and 223.3 mm deep. The primary unit weighs 6.8 kg and the secondary 6.4 kg.

Engineering and use context

Each braced enclosure uses MDF panels three quarters of an inch thick covered in real wood veneer, and the bass-reflex tuning relies on a pair of tuned ports firing forward through the baffle. There are six input options in total, among them a combination XLR and quarter-inch TRS socket for balanced or unbalanced signals, asynchronous USB for a computer, optical digital, a 3.5 mm analogue jack and Ethernet. Streaming covers Google Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth, and the system is Roon Ready and renders MQA. The primary speaker sends audio to the secondary either wirelessly at up to 96 kHz or over the supplied 2 m Digital Link cable, which carries 192 kHz. Either cabinet can be assigned as left or right. A Bluetooth handheld remote, a selectable bass contour and Google Home integration are included. Finishes are Natural Walnut with a blue grille or Black Walnut with a black grille.

Pairing

Since amplification and conversion live inside the cabinets, a record deck with an external phono stage, a CD transport over optical or a laptop over USB is all that is needed. A signal-sensing line-level subwoofer output lets owners add low bass, and Harman names its L10cs Classic Series subwoofer as a match for this model.

The JBL 4329P is a larger active Studio Monitor with an 8-inch woofer and 300 W of amplification per cabinet, reaching down to 28 Hz at -6 dB.
