Chinese brand Letshuoer released the DZ4 in-ear monitor officially on 15 July 2023 at a retail price of USD 89. Instead of the more common single dynamic driver or hybrid layout, it places three 6 mm dynamic drivers with titanium domes in each earpiece, joined by a 6 mm passive radiator branded as an R-Sonic module for passive filtering.
Key specs that matter
Letshuoer quotes a sensitivity of 104 dB and an impedance of 12 ohms, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz. The earpieces use standard 0.78 mm two-pin receptacles, so the cable is detachable. The supplied 1.2 m lead has four cores, each of 216 strands of 0.05 mm silver-plated monocrystalline copper, and terminates in a 3.5 mm single-ended plug. Letshuoer also sells the DZ4 in bundles with other cables, including a version with a 4.4 mm plug.
Engineering and use context
The signal is divided by a two-way crossover circuit printed on a flexible circuit board, which splits the signal into low and high bands, while four separate acoustic tubes act as a physical crossover on the way to the nozzle. Knowles acoustic damping material is fitted in the sound path, and the slightly angled nozzle carries a protective metal mesh filter. The back cavity is semi-open rather than fully sealed. The chassis is made of 3D printed resin produced with high-precision printing, developed jointly with HeyGear, and the faceplate is CNC-milled anodized aluminium with a sandblasted matte texture that combines metal and resin in its semi-open design. The shell is beige and the faceplate has a bronze tone with orange grilles. Six pairs of silicone tips come in two types, black wide-bore and white narrow-bore, each in three sizes, and a black screw-on cylindrical hard case is included. The braided cable has a metal Y-splitter, a chin slider and metal plug housings with strain reliefs.
Pairing
Being low in impedance and high in sensitivity, the DZ4 falls within the load range that phones with a headphone output, portable players and small USB dongle DACs are generally designed to drive. As the two-pin sockets are of the usual type, the stock cable can be replaced by any lead with that connector, including balanced cables for sources with a balanced output.
Alternatives
The Letshuoer Cadenza4 is a pricier in-ear option from this brand, pairing a 10 mm beryllium coated dynamic driver with three balanced armature drivers.
