The Singer is a two-driver IEM by Letshuoer of China, which traded as Shuoer when this model appeared and began with OEM and ODM work before building its own brand, later becoming best known for planar magnetic models such as the S12. The Singer pairs a dynamic driver with a second unit that the maker calls electrostatic, the same driver concept Shuoer used in its Tape earphones. It came to market in the USD 50 to 100 class, with a listed price of USD 74.99, and is sold with a balanced cable as standard. Retail listings now name it Letshuoer Singer, and the shell is finished in dark metallic blue with white lettering.

Key specs that matter

Inside every shell sit an 8 mm dynamic driver and an electrostatic driver. Impedance is 32 ohm ±2 ohm, sensitivity is 103 dB ±1 dB, frequency response is quoted as 20 Hz to 30 kHz and total harmonic distortion is below 0.8%. The housing is made of 304 stainless steel. The detachable cable uses 0.78 mm two-pin connectors at the earpieces, four cores of high-purity single crystal copper and a length of 1.25 m, and it ends in an L-shaped 2.5 mm balanced plug with an aluminium plug and Y-split.

Engineering and use context

Although the maker calls the second driver electrostatic, it needs no separate energiser box of the kind full-size electrostatic headphones use, and both drivers run from the same ordinary headphone output. The two-pin sockets have plastic housings, and the cable carries a plastic chin slider to keep the two leads together below the Y-split. The shell is a slim cylinder with a bullet shape that sits deep in the ear canal, which suits the closed design and gives passive isolation from outside noise. The metal nozzles are removable, screw on, and have ridges that hold the ear tips in place. Two sets of nozzle filters come in the box, and swapping them changes the lower and core treble by a small amount. Coloured rings on the faceplates, blue for the left side and red for the right, mark the channels.

Pairing

The balanced plug connects directly to portable players and DAC amplifiers with a matching balanced output, and an adapter to 3.5 mm in the box allows use with ordinary single-ended jacks. Its easy load lets a phone dongle or small portable DAC provide enough level. The package also includes six pairs of silicone tips in two types, two pairs of foam tips and a faux leather carry case.

Alternatives

The Shuoer Tape Pro from the same maker is an in-ear model with a low-voltage electrostatic and dynamic driver pair, 16 ohm impedance, 105 dB sensitivity and faceplate screws that adjust the bass.
