The ToneWinner AT-02 is an active Dolby Atmos soundbar for use with a TV, produced in Guangzhou by Tonewinner Electronics. It is a 2.1.2 design that combines decoding, class D amplification and eight drivers in one enclosure. Besides Dolby Atmos it handles DTS:X and older formats in both families, and it can sit on a table or hang on a wall.
Key specs that matter
The maker quotes 7 x 22 W plus 88 W for the subwoofer section, and also lists output as 4 x 25 W plus 1 x 80 W and speaks of 200 W driving the bass, so the published power data is not consistent. The frequency range reaches 40 Hz to 20 kHz. The cabinet measures 1208 x 108 x 160 mm and weighs 10.8 kg. Audio formats include DTS:X, DTS HD, PCM, Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, and video up to 4K passes through. Mains supply covers 100 V to 220 V. Shipping weight is 13.8 kg. The outer case is all aluminium, which the maker notes also helps heat dissipation.
Engineering and use context
A pair of 2-inch full-range drivers on the upper face points toward the ceiling to form the reflected height layer, and two 4-inch drivers act as built-in subwoofers. Decoding is handled by an Analog Devices SHARC processor, which the maker names as either the ADSP-21584 or the ADSP-21487. Amplification uses a digital input class D amplifier from Texas Instruments. The frequency curve of each driver is adjusted through DSP. The maker states that every driver is tested and tuned by hardware, software and acoustic engineers. Five listening modes are available, including a custom mode that stores user settings. The connection panel has four HDMI inputs, with one HDMI output carrying HDCP 2.2, supporting 4K, 3D, ARC, CEC and standby pass-through, together with optical, coaxial and analogue inputs. A USB port reads drives up to 128 GB and a TF card slot is fitted, with playback of WAV, FLAC, APE and MP3 files. Wireless streaming and control from an Android or iOS app are also supported.
Pairing
The HDMI inputs take a Blu-ray player, game console or set-top box, and the HDMI output with ARC links to the TV. A subwoofer output allows an external powered subwoofer to be added. Other sources listed as compatible include a PC, smartphone, projector, DVD player, hard disc player and network TV box.
Alternatives
The ToneWinner AT-100 is a larger 5.1.2 soundbase with twelve drivers in a flat cabinet designed to carry the TV on top.
