The ToneWinner TJ-K8 is a five-channel passive speaker package from Guangzhou Tonewinner Electronics, made up of two floorstanding main speakers, one horizontal centre and two compact surrounds. The maker positions it for home cinema as well as karaoke, and quotes a combined system rating of 370 W with a gross shipping weight of 74 kg.

Key specs that matter

The towers are three-way designs, each fitted with a 1-inch PEI dome tweeter, a 5-inch midrange and two 8-inch woofers. Tonewinner lists a range of 38 Hz to 20 kHz, 85 dB at 1 W and 1 m, a nominal 4 ohm load and a recommended amplifier power of 50 to 220 W. A tower measures 260 x 1115 x 310 mm and weighs 24 kg. The centre pairs a 1-inch silk dome tweeter with two 5-inch units, reaches down to 75 Hz, accepts 20 to 100 W and measures 550 x 182 x 210 mm at 6 kg. Each surround carries a 1-inch tweeter and one 5-inch unit, is rated for 10 to 50 W and measures 182 x 306 x 210 mm at 5 kg. Centre and surrounds share the same sensitivity, impedance and upper limit as the towers.

Engineering and use context

The tower cabinets use a high-density plant fibre board wrapped in a red walnut veneer. The PEI tweeter sits on an aluminium alloy heat sink, the paper cones of the mid and bass drivers are treated with a high-damping mineral coating, and the 8-inch woofers are built on cast aluminium frames with large oxygen-free copper voice coils and oversized magnets. The crossover in the towers is a third-order Bessel type with MKP capacitors and oxygen-free copper inductors. A rear reflex port on each tower comes with a foam plug, so the port can be closed when the speaker has to stand near a wall. The smaller boxes are made of MDF, 22 mm at the front baffle and 18 mm on the sides, and the surrounds add internal braces plus metal keyhole slots for wall hanging. Because the centre and surround channels use the same tweeter and 5-inch driver type, the driver types stay matched across the front and rear of the layout.

Pairing

Because every channel presents a low impedance and the towers take a wide power window, the set needs multichannel electronics able to drive such loads without strain. Within the same catalogue, the ToneWinner AT-3000 receiver delivers 240 W into 8 ohm on its three front channels and 120 W into 8 ohm on the others, and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding. The towers alone also work as a stereo pair for a two-channel integrated amplifier, with the centre and surrounds added later.

Alternatives

A larger option from the same brand is the ToneWinner TD-8 system, whose towers use two 8-inch woofers with a 6.5-inch midrange and a 1.1-inch tweeter.
