The ToneWinner AT-01A is the decoding and amplification half of a two-box Atmos package from the Chinese maker Guangzhou Tonewinner Electronics. It is sold together with the passive AT-01S bar, and the pair is described by the maker as its second generation 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos certified soundbar, known at home as Yuexiang No. 1. The split layout keeps all electronics in a separate chassis, while the bar under the TV holds only drivers and chambers.

Key specs that matter

ToneWinner publishes two power ratings, seven channels at 22 W each plus 80 W for the subwoofer section, and 25 W x 7 RMS plus 100 W for the bass channels. The distortion figure is given as 0.1 percent, sensitivity as 90 dB and the frequency range as 40 Hz to 20 kHz. The unit runs on 110 V or 220 V mains. Net weight is 2.7 kg, rising to 3.9 kg packed.

Engineering and use context

Processing relies on three DSP chips. Two SHARC floating-point parts from Analog Devices, the 21487 and 21489, handle all Dolby Atmos decoding, and a Cirrus Logic CS48560 takes care of post-processing such as virtualisation, sound field expansion, effect adjustment and speaker voicing. Amplification is class D, built on Texas Instruments digital amplifier chips. Video switching uses a dedicated HDMI processing chip with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, passing 4K signals at 60 frames per second with full chroma sampling. The rear panel carries a quartet of HDMI inputs with a single HDMI output, plus one optical, one coaxial and one stereo analogue input. A digital wireless slot accepts a dedicated ToneWinner receiver with aptX, so phones or computers can stream to the system. The chassis is anodised aluminium alloy with a brushed metal back panel and five round metal buttons arranged in a ring, and a 2.8-inch TFT colour screen shows a graphical menu. Most functions can be run from the front buttons alone. A small infrared remote is supplied, finished in black brushed metal with soft rubber keys. Packed together, the processor and bar reach 16.4 kg.

The AT-01A is intended to drive the AT-01S bar, and the two are joined by one multi-core oxygen-free copper cable instead of separate speaker runs for every channel. Players, consoles and streaming boxes connect over HDMI, and the HDMI output feeds the TV.
