The AD-8300PA from Guangzhou Tonewinner Electronics is an 11-channel Class AB power amplifier aimed at home theater and custom installation work. Its eleven channels are enough to drive a full Dolby Atmos layout such as 7.1.4 or 5.1.6 from the preamp outputs of a surround processor, and the manufacturer gives the power in two tiers, with three stronger channels for the front stage and eight for surround and height duty.

Key specs that matter

Into 8 ohm, the left, center and right channels are rated at 320 W each and the remaining eight at 150 W each, measured with two channels driven at under 0.1% THD. At 1% THD and 1 kHz, the rated figures are 300 W x 3 plus 155 W x 8. Into 4 ohm with one channel driven, the front channels reach up to 605 W and the others 276 W. Signal-to-noise ratio is 110 dB or better, A-weighted, and distortion is 0.03% or lower at 1 kHz. Frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 118 kHz within +1 and -3 dB. Each of the eleven channels offers XLR and RCA inputs side by side, 22 in total. A 3000 W switch-mode supply accepts 110 to 230 V at 50 or 60 Hz. The case measures 450 x 460 x 210 mm and weighs 20 kg.

Engineering and use context

Inside, eleven separate differential amplifier modules do the work, and the output devices are high-power transistors rated at 45 A. The uneven power split follows the way film mixes are balanced, where the front channels carry dialogue and most effects while surrounds and heights deliver ambient and positional cues at lower levels. Using a switch-mode supply instead of a large linear transformer keeps the weight and height down for a unit with this channel count. Five independent protection circuits cover overcurrent, overvoltage, overload, short circuit and overheating, and a resettable protector button sits on the rear panel. Four temperature-controlled fans vary their speed with the thermal load. A 5 V trigger input and output on 3.5 mm jacks synchronise power-up and shutdown with the processor and pass the command to further equipment.

Pairing

The AD-8300PA needs a source with preamp outputs for every channel it drives, for instance a multichannel processor. The high-power front trio suits larger main and center speakers, while the eight lower-rated channels match smaller surround and in-ceiling height speakers.

Alternatives

The ToneWinner AD-7300PA+ is a 7-channel Class AB power amplifier from the same maker, built from seven discrete mono modules for smaller surround layouts.
