The AVC-X6800H is an 11.4-channel Denon home theatre receiver that handles 8K video and includes the HEOS streaming system. Eleven discrete power amplifiers are fitted, while processing and the pre-outs extend to 13.4 channels, so two further speakers can run from an external amplifier. It is placed above the AVC-X4800H in the Denon X-series range.
Key specs that matter
Rated power is 140 W per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.05 % THD with two channels driven. At 6 ohms and 1 kHz Denon quotes 175 W at 0.7 % THD with two channels driven and 205 W at 1 % THD with a single channel driven. In Direct mode the frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 100 kHz within plus 1 and minus 3 dB, with 102 dB signal-to-noise IHF-A weighted. There are seven 8K-ready HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs, one with eARC. The receiver measures 434 x 389 x 167 mm, weighs 15.6 kg and draws 750 W in operation and 0.1 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Denon builds the power stage in a mono block construction, with each channel on its own amplifier, and uses AL32 Processing for the digital signal path. The HDMI board passes 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, supports ALLM for gaming and carries Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Supported formats are Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD, plus DTS-HD Master, DTS:X and DTS:X Pro, as well as Auro 3D, IMAX Enhanced and 360 Reality Audio. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is included, and Denon states that a further calibration upgrade can be added later. Three multi-room zones are available, and a Zone 2 HDMI video output is provided. For legacy video there are two composite inputs and one component input. Streaming runs through HEOS with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Amazon Music HD, TIDAL and Qobuz, and DSD streams at 2.8 and 5.6 MHz are accepted. Roon Tested status is confirmed. Denon states that the receiver is designed and manufactured in Japan. Its 32-bit D.D.S.C. HD digital stage works with a Clock Jitter Reducer, and Pure Direct mode is available. Game consoles benefit from VRR and QFT, and Bluetooth can retransmit to headphones with volume control. Speaker impedance may range from 4 to 16 ohms. Voice commands come via Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomePod and Josh.ai.
Pairing
A 13.4 multichannel pre-out and four independent subwoofer outputs allow external power amplifiers and up to four powered subwoofers to be added. Older sources connect through six analog inputs, a front USB input and two digital inputs each in optical and coaxial form, and an MM phono input takes a turntable directly.
Alternatives
The Denon AVC-X4800H sits one step lower, with nine power amplifiers and 11.4-channel processing sharing the chassis size of this model.
