The MODEL 60n is a two-channel Marantz network integrated amplifier powered by HEOS, aimed at listeners who want one box to cover network, TV, digital and turntable sources. The US list price is USD 1,600, and Marantz offers it in Black, Silver and Gold.
Key specs that matter
Output is 60 W per channel into 8 ohm and 80 W into 4 ohm RMS from a class A/B stage. Marantz quotes a range of 5 Hz to 100 kHz, total harmonic distortion of 0.02 % and a damping factor above 100. Line inputs have a sensitivity of 190 mV at 20 kohm, with 113 dB signal to noise measured at 2 V input. The MM phono stage needs 2 mV at 47 kohm and reaches 87 dB signal to noise, and there is no MC setting. There are four analogue inputs including phono, one coaxial and two optical digital inputs, a USB-A port, one HDMI ARC connection, one preamp output, a mono subwoofer output and a headphone jack. The internal DAC accepts PCM up to 192 kHz and 24 bit and DSD up to 11.2 MHz. The case is 442 x 431 x 129 mm and weighs 12.7 kg. Power consumption is 220 W, or 0.3 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Both HDAM-SA3 and HDAM-SA2 modules appear in the signal path, and the amplifier uses current feedback topology. A toroidal transformer feeds a linear power supply with Schottky diodes, and the output devices sit on an aluminium extrusion heat sink. Marantz specifies a symmetric circuit board layout together with selected and customised parts. Bass and treble controls each span 10 dB either way, at 50 Hz and 10 kHz, and a Source Direct mode bypasses them together with the balance control. The display is a low-noise monochrome OLED. HEOS handles Wi-Fi and wired network playback, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, and the unit is Roon Ready, along with services such as Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music HD and TuneIn. Lossless FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF and DSD files are played gaplessly, and voice commands work through Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri. Thanks to CEC over the HDMI ARC socket, a TV remote can wake the amplifier and adjust its level.
Pairing
The 4 ohm rating allows speakers with lower nominal impedance, connected through Marantz SPKT-1+ terminals. The subwoofer output makes a 2.1 system possible, and the preamp output can feed a separate power amplifier. An MM cartridge record player needs no external phono preamp, and a Marantz CD player can be linked over D-Bus and operated from the RC006PM remote.
