The PM7000N is a network integrated amplifier from Marantz that combines a stereo power amplifier with HEOS streaming, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth. RMS output is 60 W per channel into 8 ohm and 80 W per channel into 4 ohm, and the unit weighs 10.8 kg.

Key specs that matter

The amplifier covers 5 Hz to 100 kHz within 3 dB either way, with total harmonic distortion of 0.02 % and a damping factor of 100 and over. The CD, AUX and recorder inputs take 220 mV at 18 kohm and reach 115 dB signal-to-noise ratio. The MM phono input requires 2.0 mV at 47 kohm, tolerates up to 80 mV, holds RIAA deviation within 0.5 dB either way and gives 87 dB signal-to-noise ratio. A subwoofer output provides 240 mV. Bass at 50 Hz and treble at 15 kHz each have 10 dB of adjustment in both directions. Consumption is 220 W in use, while standby draws between 0.4 W and 5.8 W depending on the mode selected.

Engineering and use context

In the power stage Marantz applies its discrete current feedback circuit with the HDAM-SA3 module taken from higher-grade models. A short power line layout keeps resistance low and allows an instantaneous current of over 32 A. The phono equaliser for MM cartridges was newly developed for this model. The supply combines a double shielded toroidal transformer, chosen for low vibration and magnetic leakage, with a 15,000 uF block electrolytic capacitor. A peripheral circuitry off function shuts down circuits not needed during playback to cut interference. Via USB and the network, the amplifier plays DSD at 2.8 and 5.6 MHz and WAV, FLAC and ALAC files up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, with gapless playback for selected formats. Wi-Fi covers IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n on 2.4 and 5 GHz with WEP and WPA/WPA2-PSK security. Bluetooth is version 4.1, power class 1, supporting A2DP 1.2, AVRCP 1.5 and SBC, and reaches roughly 30 m when unobstructed. A three-line OLED display, TV remote learning and auto standby are included.

Pairing

A pair of optical sockets and a coaxial socket accept a television or other digital sources. Within the HEOS app the amplifier can be grouped with other HEOS devices to play the same music in several rooms or different music on each, and AirPlay 2 lets it play in sync with other compatible speakers. The subwoofer output feeds an active bass unit.
