The M6si Stream from Musical Fidelity pairs the M6si integrated amplifier with a separate WiiM Pro module that handles network streaming. The maker keeps the streaming circuitry apart from the amplifier to limit RF and HF interference reaching the analogue stages. Inside, the M6si works as a preamplifier feeding two independent monobloc power amplifiers that share one chassis, using technology taken from the brand's TITAN power amplifier. Since January 2024 the M6si has shipped with the WiiM Pro included in the box, following an offer from November in which selected Musical Fidelity integrated amplifiers came with a free WiiM streamer.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 220 W per channel into 8 ohms and 380 W into 4 ohms, with 750 W peaks into 2 ohms. THD plus noise is below 0.007 percent typical from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, while noise sits more than 107 dB below signal, A-weighted. Frequency response is quoted as plus 0 and minus 0.1 dB from 10 Hz to 20 kHz. The unit measures 440 x 125 x 400 mm and weighs 16.6 kg unpacked, or 21.3 kg in its carton.
Engineering and use context
Four RCA line inputs and one balanced XLR line input take analogue sources. A switchable phono input accepts moving magnet or moving coil cartridges, with a sensitivity of 3 mV for MM and 0.4 mV for MC, an input impedance of 47 kohm and a signal to noise figure above 84 dB A-weighted. Its RIAA/IEC equalisation stays within plus or minus 0.5 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. A computer can be linked through an asynchronous USB Type B port accepting data up to 24-bit and 96 kHz. The rear panel also carries a fixed line level output and a variable preamp output, and a trigger input with matching output lets it power up in step with other components. The WiiM Pro supports Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, DLNA, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect, handles lossless files, works in multi-room setups and outputs audio at up to 24-bit and 192 kHz.
Pairing
The variable preamp output lets a second power amplifier or an active subwoofer be driven from the same volume control, while a headphone amplifier or recorder can use the fixed socket. The 2 ohm peak rating indicates the output stage is built to cope with loudspeakers whose impedance drops well below nominal. Because streaming arrives through the included WiiM Pro, no separate network player is required.
Alternatives
The Musical Fidelity M5xi is a different integrated amplifier in the current M range, launched together with the M6xi.
