The I35 Prisma DM36 is the complete form of the Primare I35 full-size integrated amplifier from Sweden, carrying both the DM36 converter module and the SM35 Prisma network player module in one chassis. Primare lists it at EUR 5,000.

Key specs that matter

The amplifier stage produces 150 W per channel into 8 ohm and 300 W into 4 ohm. The balanced XLR inputs, two stereo pairs, present 30 kOhm, and the three RCA pairs present 15 kOhm, while the RCA preamplifier and line outputs both have a 100 ohm output impedance. Gain is 42.5 dB at the speaker terminals, 16.5 dB at the preamplifier output and 0 dB at the line output. Digital sources use four Toslink and two coaxial inputs, a USB-B input with PCM up to 384 kHz and 32 bit and DSD256, and one coaxial socket passes digital audio out. Power draw is under 0.5 W in ECO standby, under 5 W in normal standby and 44 W to 600 W in operation. The case measures 430 x 106 x 420 mm with knobs and 382 mm deep without them, weighs 11 kg and is available in black or titanium.

Engineering and use context

The SM35 module adds two Ethernet ports, dual-band Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5 GHz, and Bluetooth. Network playback covers WAV, LPCM, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, WMA and OGG up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, along with MP3 and MP4 AAC up to 48 kHz and 16 bit and DSD up to DSD128, and the unit works as a DLNA/UPnP renderer. Services include AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect and Roon Ready. A Polarity Pen comes in the box for verifying mains polarity, and a single-pole switch on the rear panel cuts primary power. Through the Prisma app, owners manage several rooms or zones and browse both local libraries and streaming services, whether the network link is wired or wireless. On the conversion side the DM36 uses an ESS ES9068A chip with MQA processing and an optional up-sampling mode. UFPD 2, Primare's second-generation all-analogue Class-D design, drives the speakers.

Pairing

The C25 system remote has dedicated keys for source selection, playback transport and display dimming, and IR input and output, a trigger output and RS232 extend control to other equipment. Primare names the CD35 Prisma disc player, the PRE35 Prisma preamplifier and the R35 phono stage as members of the same system family, and the DD35 CD transport can be linked through trigger control.
