Key specs that matter

Nine channels deliver 90 W each into 4 or 8 ohm, with a maximum total of 810 W. Driven as a stereo pair, each channel is rated at 145 W into 8 ohm and 250 W into 4 ohm, and in bi-amp mode the figure per speaker becomes 290 W into 8 ohm and 450 W into 4 ohm. Conversion is handled by two eight-channel ESS 9026PRO DAC chips. The decoder handles Dolby Atmos as well as DTS:X for as many as 11 channels, and layouts such as 5.1, 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1, 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 are supported. Engineering and use context

The SPA25 Prisma relies on a Hypex-based Class D design with an adaptive power supply, and Primare describes the circuit as built around very short signal paths for high current output. Video connectivity covers four HDMI 2.0b inputs plus a pair of HDMI outputs - an eARC port and an auxiliary port - with HDCP 2.2 and 4K dynamic HDR. Five RCA analogue inputs include a 7.1 multichannel set, joined by coaxial, Toslink and USB-B digital inputs. The Prisma platform adds two Ethernet ports, WiFi, a USB-A port, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Chromecast built-in, Roon Ready status and Spotify Connect, along with embedded Prisma Radio, Tidal and Qobuz access and multi-room and multi-zone operation, with the whole system customised through the Prisma app. Users can store 17 input presets and five speaker setup presets. Control options include the PRISMA universal remote, 3.5 mm IR in and out, a 12 V trigger output and an RS232 port.

RCA pre-outputs let the SPA25 Prisma hand channels to external power amplifiers, and Primare names the A35.8 power amplifier for that role, and lists the SP25 Prisma home cinema preamplifier, the DM36 converter module and a Zen microphone among related products, together with the PRISMA remote. With nine internal channels, a 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 layout can be run from the SPA25 Prisma alone, while external amplification becomes relevant for the 7.1.4 configuration or for bi-amping the front pair.
