The I15 MM is a compact all-analogue integrated model built by Swedish maker Primare, shipping with the MM15 moving magnet phono stage already installed. Output is 60 W per channel into 8 ohm and 100 W per channel into 4 ohm. The three-quarter-width chassis is intended for compact living areas. The European price is EUR 1,600, with black and titanium finishes available.
Key specs that matter
Inputs A2 to A5 and the phono-equipped A1 form five RCA inputs rated at 15 kohm. Between 20 Hz and 20 kHz the amplifier holds response to -0.7 dB, keeps THD plus noise below 0.02 % at 10 W into 8 ohm and achieves more than 97 dB signal-to-noise ratio, with 80 dB crosstalk at 10 kHz. The phono board adds 40.5 dB of gain at 1 kHz and loads the cartridge with 47 kohm and 150 pF. Its RIAA correction is accurate to 0.2 dB and it reaches 78 dB signal-to-noise. Width is 350 mm, depth 339 mm and height 73 mm, counting knobs and sockets. The amplifier consumes under 0.6 W in standby and 16 W to 100 W in operation at 230 V.
Engineering and use context
Primare drives the speakers with a Hypex class D module shared with the I15 Prisma. Because the I15 MM carries no digital conversion or network player, its supply configuration was revised. The design follows the Scandinavian principle of lagom, meaning balance, harmony and proportion, and targets a fully analogue chain from turntable to speakers without extra boxes. Controls on the fascia comprise a standby button, an input selector knob and volume buttons, and pressing both volume buttons together opens the settings menus. There, balance can be shifted, the front buttons locked and the display set to list only inputs carrying a signal.
Pairing
Record players with MM pickups plug straight into A1, beside an earth post for the ground lead. A speaker mute mode silences the speaker terminals while keeping the RCA outputs live, so a headphone amplifier can be run from them. One RCA line output at 0 dB gain and one RCA pre-out with 16.5 dB gain, both at 150 ohm, allow a recorder, power amplifier or active subwoofer to be added. Control options include the C25 IR remote, 3.5 mm IR in and out sockets, an RS-232 outboard port and a 12 V trigger for switching other components.
Alternatives
The Primare I15 is the same analogue integrated amplifier sold without a phono stage, which can take the MM15 board as a later upgrade.
