The Silver Luna Prestige is an EL34 based integrated amplifier from Fezz Audio, a Polish company whose background lies in winding toroidal transformers and building equipment enclosures. The current production version is sold as the Evolution Silver Luna Prestige, listed in the US at USD 4,395.

Key specs that matter

Four EL34 output valves, two per channel in push-pull, work in Class AB1 and deliver 35 W per channel. Two driver valves of the 6N2P or 12AX7/ECC83 type handle the input and driver stages, and all valves are supplied pre-paired and numbered. Frequency response is 15 Hz to 77 kHz at -3 dB, THD is quoted below 0.35 % and power consumption is 170 W. Three single-ended RCA inputs are fitted. The maker lists the amplifier at 410 x 320 x 165 mm and 15.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Fezz winds its own toroidal output transformers, and the output stage uses automatic bias, which removes manual idle current setting when a fresh set of power valves goes in. A front toggle changes the EL34 operation between pentode and quasi-tetrode connection. A second switch adapts the circuit to either 6N2P driver valves or NOS 12AX7/ECC83 types. With socket adapters the output stage also accepts valves of the 6L6 family, including 5881, 6L6GC, KT66 and 5932. A ground selector switches between signal ground and chassis ground to deal with hum in a given system. A tube cage and a remote control come in the box, and the chassis is offered in six colours. Beyond the 6L6 family, NOS equivalents of the supplied valves can also be fitted, giving owners broad scope for valve rolling without any change to the circuit. Three extras can be ordered at USD 300 each - a Bluetooth aptX 5.0 receiver, a home theatre loop input and a subwoofer output.

Pairing

Separate binding posts for 4 ohm and 8 ohm taps allow the transformer secondary to be matched to the speaker load. With this moderate output, speakers of moderate to high efficiency in a room of about 20 m2 suit the amplifier best, and the optional subwoofer output can hand the deepest bass to an active subwoofer. The home theatre loop lets the Silver Luna share speakers with a surround processor.
