The NAD C 700 is a BluOS streaming amplifier that combines network playback, a DAC and a HybridDigital UcD power stage in a compact box. It was priced at USD 1,499, GBP 1,299, EUR 1,499 and CAD 1,999, and began shipping worldwide in late October 2021. NAD no longer produces it.
Key specs that matter
Continuous power is above 80 W per channel into 8 ohm and above 100 W into 4 ohm from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with both channels driven, and NAD also quotes 120 W per channel of instantaneous power. Clipping power exceeds 86 W at 1 kHz into 8 ohm and 102 W into 4 ohm, while IHF dynamic power reaches 100 W and 125 W into those loads. THD+N stays below 0.04 % at rated power, the A-weighted noise figure is over 84 dB with a 500 mV input, and damping exceeds 90 at 8 ohm. Frequency response holds within 0.18 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and channel separation is over 93 dB at 1 kHz and 72 dB at 10 kHz. Line input sensitivity is 550 mV for full output, and the digital inputs reach rated power at -12 dBFS. The case measures 218 x 96 x 266 mm and weighs 4.8 kg.
Engineering and use context
According to NAD, the UcD amplifier design keeps noise and distortion low throughout the frequency range. BluOS handles files up to 32 bit and 192 kHz PCM, supports MQA decoding and rendering, and allows multi-room streaming to 63 zones. Supported services include Amazon Music HD, Deezer, Idagio, Qobuz and Tidal, along with Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 and Tidal Connect. The BluOS Controller app is free for iOS, Android and desktop computers. A 5 inch high-definition colour display shows album artwork, track status and system settings. Network access runs over Gigabit Ethernet, and two-way Bluetooth uses aptX HD. Bass and treble controls each adjust by 6 dB, at 60 Hz and 20 kHz respectively.
Pairing
Connections include two pairs of RCA analogue inputs, coaxial and optical digital inputs and an HDMI eARC port for a television. A subwoofer output with crossover settings delivers up to 4.0 Vrms, and a 12 V trigger output can switch other equipment. A USB Type-A port reads memory sticks formatted as FAT32 or NTFS. The remote can learn commands from existing handsets, and voice control works through Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri.
Alternatives
