Danish company Davone has launched the second generation of its Solo loudspeaker, introducing the Solo-R to mark the tenth anniversary of the original model. Externally, the speakers remain largely unchanged and retain the distinctive design of their predecessor, while the internal construction has been extensively revised. The main focus was placed on new drivers and achieving a more even distribution of sound throughout the room.

The high-frequency section uses a 25 mm tweeter with a variable-thickness aluminium-magnesium alloy dome. This design reduces the moving mass and shifts the main resonances beyond the audible range. Midrange frequencies are handled by a 4-inch driver with a carbon-fibre and Kevlar cone, combining high rigidity with effective internal damping.

Low frequencies are reproduced by an 8-inch woofer with a reinforced aluminium cone designed for high excursion and piston-like operation. At the same time, Davone has retained dimensions and driver placement close to those of the original Solo in order to preserve the system’s characteristic spatial presentation. According to the company, particular attention was paid to matching the dispersion characteristics of all frequency bands and achieving the smoothest possible off-axis response.

The Davone Solo-R has a stated frequency response of 30 Hz to 30 kHz, a nominal impedance of 4 ohms with a minimum of 2.5 ohms at 450 Hz, and a sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.83 V/1 m. Each speaker measures 109 × 38 × 38 cm and weighs 30 kg. The Solo-R is already available at a recommended retail price of €9,900 per pair.
