The Trim T10 is a floorstanding loudspeaker of the T10 range from Bryston of Ontario, positioned below the Middle T10 and Model T10. Like the other T10 models, it marks ten years since the first Model T, and it can be run passive or active through interchangeable modules. It is a three-way tower with pairs of each driver type.

Key specs that matter

The Trim T10 carries two 1-inch titanium tweeters, two 5.25-inch midrange drivers and two HP 6.5-inch woofers, crossed over at 250 Hz and 2 kHz. Response is 32 Hz to 20 kHz within ±3 dB, and impedance is 4 ohms. Sensitivity is 91 dB in room and 87 dB anechoic, and the amplifier range is 30 to 700 W. The cabinet measures 1,520 x 260 x 410 mm and weighs 38 kg.

Engineering and use context

Bryston calls its T10 floorstanders partial line arrays, since the paired tweeters and midranges are stacked vertically with the woofers. The Trim T10 uses the smallest version of this arrangement, with two woofers compared with four in the Middle T10. The cabinet is vented through a Reflex Vortex port, which has a fluted profile, and it has a braced front baffle up to 38 mm thick. Each speaker ships with four modules - passive, bi-amplified, tri-amplified and active - and changing the module converts it from one mode to another. The active option works with the BAX-1 DSP crossover and three amplifier channels. Because every T10 model uses the same crossover points and tweeter, a system can combine Trim T10 towers with Compact T10 stand-mounts for surround channels. Walnut, Boston Cherry and Black Ash are the standard veneers, and a 20-year warranty covers the speakers, which are built in Dwight, Ontario.

Pairing

The 4 ohm load calls for amplifiers that deliver ample current, while the wide power range also covers large power amplifiers. The narrow cabinet suits living rooms of about 20 m2. Compared with the Middle T10, the Trim T10 is 180 mm shorter and 8 kg lighter, which makes it easier to place in smaller spaces. With the bi-amp or tri-amp module, the speaker can be driven by two or three amplifier channels.

Alternatives

The Bryston Middle T10 is the next tower up, doubling the woofer count to four and extending the bass to 28 Hz, with a 50 to 1,000 W amplifier range.
