Line Magnetic is a Chinese vacuum-tube amplifier company, started in 2005 in Zhuhai, Guangdong, by the brothers Zheng Cai and Zheng Xi. The company builds single-ended and push-pull valve electronics, winds its own audio transformers and also offers tube CD players, DACs and regenerated 211 tubes. Most of its output goes to export markets, and the brand runs two production sites in Guangdong, a modern factory in Zhuhai and a smaller workshop in Foshan devoted to vintage-pattern designs.

Range & what it's known for

Line Magnetic centres its output on the LM range of integrated tube amplifiers, with models such as the LM-88IA, LM-150IA, LM-170IA, LM-212, LM-300IA PLUS, the LM-845 and LM-845IA, and the LM-518IA, a line-level single-ended design that uses one 300B per channel to drive a single 845 output triode. Digital sources include the LM-32CD tube CD player and the LM-32DAC. Alongside these sits a classic line of faithful reproductions of Western Electric equipment, including versions of the 91A and 86A 300B amplifiers, plus Foshan-built Analog Sound models such as the AS-123, AS-125, AS-127, AS-129P and AS-133. Transformer design is the engineering thread through all of it, and the firm also supplies transformers to other audio companies.

Who owns it and where it's made

Line Magnetic is privately held by the Zheng family. Zheng Cai had earlier been chief engineer and a shareholder at Cayin, then spent years restoring vintage Western Electric gear before starting his own workshop. After his death in 2014 the company has been led by his son, Zheng Dawei. Design and assembly stay in Guangdong, with roughly 1,700 square metres of production space in Zhuhai, including in-house transformer winding.

The lineup in this catalog

Integrated, pre and power amplifiers plus power supplies. Line Magnetic prices here begin near USD 1,000 and exceed USD 10,000 for the costliest pieces.

Who it's for

Line Magnetic suits buyers after a tube amp built around big directly heated triodes such as the 300B, 211 and 845, or who are drawn to Western Electric circuit lineage without paying vintage-market prices. A sensible entry is one of the smaller LM integrated models, with the 845-based integrateds as the next step and the Western Electric reproductions at the top. Owners of sensitive loudspeakers will get the most from the single-ended models.
