The Gold Note Bellagio Reference is a belt-driven turntable that Gold Note of Montespertoli in Tuscany describes as the most ambitious turntable it has ever made. It combines a heavy multi-part plinth, a thick POM platter and an electronically controlled AC motor, and it weighs 32 kg without a tonearm.

Key specs that matter

Playback speeds are 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, each held to an accuracy of 0.1 percent with fine pitch adjustment available. Drive comes from a decoupled 12 V high-torque synchronous AC motor through an EPDM Deluxe belt with 70 shore elasticity. The platter is machined from ultra-dampened POM and is 90 mm thick. Gold Note gives wow and flutter as 0.05 percent and rumble as minus 83 dB. The turntable measures 530 mm wide, 350 mm high and 500 mm deep, consumes 25 W and less than 1 W in standby, and accepts 100 to 240 V mains at 50 or 60 Hz with automatic selection.

Engineering and use context

Gold Note builds the plinth from five curved boards, selected for rigidity and resistance to deformation, and they are joined by aluminium plates that add damping. Motor speed is governed by a proprietary power supply managed by a microcontroller, developed with an audio converter and a quad-core microprocessor, which rebuilds and filters the signal feeding the motor. The platter turns on a B-7 ceramic bearing, and the spindle uses Gold Note's Split-spindle clamping system. The spindle is made from C40 carbon steel alloy that is tempered, ground and polished, and it turns in a bronze socket machined to a mating tolerance of 1/100 mm. Two finishes are listed. The upper plinth comes in black polished acrylic or gold leaf, matched with black polished acrylic and titanium or gold leaf and titanium for the main plinth.

Pairing

A tonearm and cartridge must be added to complete the player, and its signal then needs a phono stage with suitable gain for the chosen pickup. Within the same brand, the PH-1000 phono preamplifier offers MM and MC gain with a choice of RIAA and historical equalisation curves, the PH-10 is a smaller option with two cartridge inputs, and the PH-5 is the touchscreen-controlled entry model with a single input. The PH-1000 also carries an infrasonic filter at 10 Hz and five mono and stereo modes, useful for mono pressings.

Alternatives

The Gold Note Valore 425 Lite is a far simpler turntable with a 20 mm sandwich platter, a synchronous motor and a 9 inch B-5 tonearm included.
