Key specs that matter

A 15 mm platter of ultra-clear glass supplies the mass and structure, and Gold Note says this material helps retrieve fine groove information while keeping noise low. The deck runs at 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, and switching between them is manual, done by moving the belt to the second groove on the pulley. Wow and flutter is rated at 0.3 percent and rumble at -72 dB. Maximum power consumption is 3 W, and mains versions cover 100 to 120 V at 60 Hz or 220 to 240 V at 50 Hz. Overall size is 425 mm wide, 140 mm high and 360 mm deep, and the turntable weighs 7.5 kg, rising to 12.5 kg packed.

Engineering and use context

The base board is made of HDF, a high-density composite that Gold Note describes as strong and light, 23 mm thick. Material has been removed around the motor, around the bearing and along the edges to reduce resonance and interrupt the paths by which vibration travels through the board. Beneath the platter is an inverted bearing, chosen to raise platter stability and to keep rotation free of friction, with a 5 mm chromed steel ball at its centre. A high-torque synchronous motor turns the platter through a rectified EPDM belt of 70 shore hardness. The black lacquered plinth rests on three adjustable NBR rubber feet that form a semi-floating suspension.

Pairing

Cartridge mounting is handled by the included arm. Its headshell is 3D-printed, internal wiring is OFC Hyper-Litz, and both VTA and azimuth can be adjusted, so a cartridge can be aligned without changing the arm. The B-5.2 is a 9 inch arm with an effective length of 242 mm, 19 mm overhang, 24 degree offset and a dynamic effective mass of 10 g. Its straight 12 mm tube is aluminium 6000 alloy, it runs on four sealed micro ball bearings made by GRW, anti-skating uses a wire with 5 positions, and the stainless steel counterweight takes cartridges up to 15 g, with optional weights for heavier ones. A 1.5 m DIN to RCA cable is supplied.
