The DCD-A110 is a limited Anniversary Edition SACD and CD player that Denon released to mark 110 years since the company's founding in 1910, alongside the partner PMA-A110 amplifier. It comes in a silver graphite finish with an aluminium front panel, top cover, function buttons and feet, a special 110-year inlay logo, a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Denon's Head of Engineering and a 5-year warranty.
Key specs that matter
Four TI Advanced Current Segment PCM1795 converters, each rated at 192 kHz and 32 bit, form a Quad DAC configuration. Ultra AL32 Processing accepts 192 kHz, 24-bit PCM input, doubles the processing bandwidth of the previous generation and up-samples 384 kHz, 32-bit content to 1.536 MHz, running on an Intel Cyclone 10 FPGA that Denon says produces half the EMI and heat of the Cyclone IV used before. Signal-to-noise ratio is 122 dB for both SACD and CD, harmonic distortion is 0.0005% on SACD and 0.0015% on CD, and dynamic range is 118 dB for SACD against 101 dB for CD. Frequency response reaches 2 Hz to 50 kHz at -3 dB.
Engineering and use context
Denon states the quad arrangement lowers noise by 6 dB on PCM and 4 dB on DSD, and the post filter uses a fully discrete stage instead of op-amps. Two crystal oscillators, one for 44.1 kHz and one for 48 kHz, supply a DAC master clock through tri-state buffer multiplexers, with jitter quoted at 18 fs. Digital and analogue power supplies are fully independent, and the analogue side has a discrete regulator with a 3300 uF block capacitor. The Advanced S.V.H. drive combines a copper top plate, a die-cast aluminium tray and 2 mm steel brackets. Signal paths in the drive are cut to a minimum and its low centre of gravity damps vibration from disc rotation. The analogue power supply uses high-power bipolar transistors, audio-grade electrolytic capacitors and polyphenylene sulfide capacitors developed with selected suppliers. Besides SACD and CD, it reads DSD at 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz and PCM up to 192 kHz and 24 bit from DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, plus files up to 48 kHz on CD-R/RW.
Pairing
Both a web manual and a paper manual are provided. The supplied remote has an aluminium top and can also operate the PMA-A110 integrated amplifier, and the player can be controlled via an app through a network player.
